Reviewing & Changing Relay settings
Retrieving Events & Fault Records

• 7SA522 (Numerical Distance & DEF Protection)

o Settings
There are two ways to check or modify existing settings inside 7SA522 relays.

- Using the Pushbuttons on the front side of the relay. This allows you to
change only the group setting but not the device configuration.

Press menu button and then scroll down using arrows to settings, press enter
or right arrow to enter setting. The default Password to change any setting is
"000000".

- Using the serial communication cable and DIGSI software. This allows you to
change device configuration and group settings.
Connect the serial cable to the front port of the relay and to the PC where the
DIGSI software is installed. Open the DIGSI software and create new folder
to download relay settings inside it. From the Menu Bar press on Device then
device -> DIGSI. Select device type as SIPROTEC 4 (see figure 2) and then
choose Direct connection to the relay and PC interface as COM1 and Frame
as 8 E(ven) 1 (see figure 3)

If the communication to the relay succeeded you will see the following
window

after changing the required settings press on Device from the Menu Bar and then select
DIGSI -> device. To send the changed settings to the relay. The default Password is
"000000".

o Events and Fault Analysis

 Using Relay Pushbuttons

Press Menu pushbutton and then press enter or the right arrow to enter the
Annunciation submenu.
EVENT LOG: contains the last 200 recorded events, where the last event is
numbered 200 and so on.
TRIP LOG: contains the last 8 recorded trips.

 Using DIGSI software

If you have the desired relay setting file stored in the DIGSI directory open it, if
not do the steps described above in the setting section till you see the window
shown in figure 4.
From the left menu select Annunciation. Click on the event log and a file
containing the events list will appear on the right menu, double click on that file
to open the list of events stored in the relay memory.
Similarly click on trip log to list the last 8 trips relay stored in its memory,
double click on the desired trip log to open it.
To see the Oscillographic Records of the last 8 trips, select Oscillographic
Records from the left menu and again click on the submenu Oscillographic
Records, the last 8 trips records will be listed on the right menu double clicking
on the desired fault record will open SIGRA software that enables you to see
analogue values, digital inputs, and digital outputs during fault.
