The Liberia-flagged general cargo ship AAL MERKUR was boarded at Vung Tau anchorage, Vietnam, at 19:20 LT (12:20 UTC) on 29 May
2024.

The incident took place at 10:12.00N 107:03.00E.

The crew reported that one perpetrator boarded the ship. Duty crew noticed him and raised the alarm, resulting in the perpetrators
making his escape empty-handed into a wooden boat along with two accomplices.

The 33,192 DWT vessel is managed by Columbia Ship Management, Limassol, Cyprus.

Update: Report from the vessel states the following details: "A crew on duty patrolled the forecastle area, spotted a person climbing on
board using a rope hooked over the ship’s railing. The crew shouted at him and reported the incident to OOW, who raised the alarm,
resulting in the perpetrator jumping into the water and escaping in a wooden boat with two accomplices. The incident was reported to
the Vietnam Coast Guard." The perpetrator did not get onto the vessel but let go of the rope and dropped into the water, from where he
made his escape as described.
