b) Mention examples of word processor
c) List application arears of word processing
d) State features of a standard word processor and identify the components of a word
processing program environment
e) Perform basic operations on a word document using a word processing package
CONTENT:
WORD PROCESSING
Word processing is the use of computers to create, edit, and print documents. . It involve the use of
a computer program known as ‘Word Processor’ to create, edit, save and print a text document.
A word processor is a computer program that enables individuals to perform word processing
function. Examples of word processors include: Ms-Word, Word Perfect, Word Star, Word Pro,
Perfect Writer, Lotus Notes, Multimate Advantage (IBM PCs), WPS Writer etc. This computer
programs allows one to edit text documents.
Text document is something written, printed, or online document that presents data in the form of
an articles, letter, memorandum, report, etc.
FEATURES (FACILITIES) OF A WORD PROCESSOR
A basic word processor provides the following features for users:
a) Insert text
b) Delete text
c) Cut and Paste
d) Copy
e) Search and replace
A standard word processing package provides all of the following package in addition to the ones
above
a) File management
b) Font specification
c) Footnotes and Cross reference
d) Graphics
e) Headers, footers and page numbering
f) Layout
g) Merge, Spell checker etc.

Word processing is used in the following areas;
