Acceleration: the rate of change of velocity

Scalar: quantities that have only a magnitude

Vector: quantities have both magnitude and direction

Resultant force( net force ): a single force that describes all of the forces operating on a

Body

Friction: the force which opposes the motion of an object

Thinking distance: he distance travelled in the time it takes the driver to react

Braking distance: the distance travelled under the braking force in metres

Stopping distance: the total distance travelled during the time it takes for a car to stop

in response to some emergency(thinking distance + braking distance)

Terminal velocity: when the acceleration of a falling object is constant(no resultant force)

Hook’s law: the extension of an elastic object is directly proportional to the force applied,

up to the limit of proportionality

Elastic deformation: when objects return to their original shape when the stretching force

is removed

Inelastic deformation: when objects remain stretched and do not return completely to

their original shape even when the stretching force is removed

Principle of conservation of momentum:

In a closed system, total momentum before an event is equal to the total momentum
after the event

Moment: the turning effect of a force about a pivot

Principle of moments:

If an object is balanced, the total clockwise moment about a pivot equals the total
anticlockwise moment about that pivot
