3 Mediation Travellers and trips

A Work in groups. Look at the role. Decide who will take on the leader role first.
The leader starts the discussion, and ensures the discussion is organized, sequenced and balanced. The leader encourages everyone to
share their opinions and asks questions to group members to ensure everyone speaks for an equal amount of time. The leader ensures
a conclusion is reached at the end of the discussion.

B Read the cards about three different travellers. Discuss in groups what you think an ideal holiday for each person
would include.

Kasia is a wanderer. She has a strong
sense of adventure and loves exploring
wherever the wind takes her. She
revels in being in nature, preferring
sustainable, low-cost travel and using
natural resources as much as possible.
She also has a passion for the night sky.
Although she likes to travel on her own,
she doesn’t mind being around very
small groups of like-minded travellers.
Itsuki loves the finer things in life but
prefers to keep to a tight budget. He
dreams of a holiday where an itinerary
is carefully planned for him, so all
he has to do is show up. He likes to
see as much as possible of the area
he’s visiting. He loves art, food and
swimming. He’s a people person and
likes to get to know those who have
different interests to him.
Emilio considers himself ‘an art-loving foodie’.
Emilio loves savouring local delicacies and trying
new food. He says that he prefers wandering
where other tourists usually don’t go so that he
can find local, family-run restaurants. He likes
to travel light and on a budget, so prefers going
to places where he can make do with, and
spend, the minimum. He loves camping but is
also happy to stay in a resort or hotel if it’s not
well-known by many tourists.

C You are recommending a trip for each person in Exercise B. Work as a group to decide on the best itineraries.
Consider each person’s preferences, likes, dislikes and budget.

Camping in the country
