Updates for SQL Server

 Basically, no service packs may be installed for the Microsoft SQL Server installed together with WinCC.
Exception: A specific Service Pack for SQL Server explicitly listed in official releases (e.g. in Delivery
Releases or Updates for WinCC) or in the Compatibility Tool (see "General compatibility information").
 Security updates for the SQL Server may generally be installed.

Windows 10
Note on the "20H2" update and SQL server
Subsequent to the installation of the Windows 10 October 2020 update ("20H2"), there may occur problems with the SQL server
Installation. As a consequence, the WinCC basic installation is disturbed as well.

Cause for the error is an outdated version of the Microsoft Edge browser. Install the current version (v86.0.622.56+ or higher) to
correct the error.

To do this, open the "..." menu in Edge and select the menu entry "Help and feedback -> About Microsoft Edge". This will
automatically start the update process. Afterwards, perform a restart.

Note on Windows 10 without LTSC

When using WinCC with Windows 10 (without LTSC), we recommend the use of a Windows Server Update Service (see
"Using the "Microsoft Windows Server Update Service" (WSUS)".

Notes on the Windows 10 Update Version 1703 and follow-up versions

As part of the Windows 10 Features Update, Microsoft.Net Framework 4.7 is either installed as part of the update Version 1703 or
installed manually.

The Microsoft.Net Framework Version 4.7 is not compatible with WinCC (TIA Portal) 14 SP1 Update 1. Instead you install a higher
update version (>TIA Portal V14 SP1 Update 1).

Important note on Windows 10 Update Version 1709 "Fall Creators Update" and follow-up versions
After installing Windows 10 Version 1709 "Fall Creators Update", there are currently problems with the installation and operation of
WinCC (TIA Portal) V13 SP2, V14 SP1 and other SIMATIC software products. Further information is available in this
entry 109755067.

Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012 R2

The Microsoft.Net Framework Version 4.7 is not compatible with WinCC (TIA Portal) 14 SP1 Update 1. Instead you install a higher
update version (>TIA Portal V14 SP1 Update 1).

If .Net Framework V4.7 is already installed, proceed as follows to install .NET Framework V4.6.2:

1. Uninstall .NET Framework V4.7 via the Control Panel on your computer.
2. Install .NET Framework V4.6.2.
