"Man and Superman" is a philosophical comedy written by George Bernard Shaw.

The play
explores the themes of evolution, the battle of the sexes, and the pursuit of the life force, among
others. The plot revolves around John Tanner, a wealthy and intellectually arrogant bachelor
who is pursued by the determined and intelligent Ann Whitefield, who hopes to marry him.
Tanner is a confirmed bachelor who believes in the "life force" and resists the traditional roles of
marriage and family.

The play is divided into four acts, with the third act being the famous dream sequence known as
"Don Juan in Hell." In this dream, Tanner encounters the ghost of his ancestor, Don Juan, along
with the Devil and a statue representing the spirit of Dona Ana, a woman Don Juan seduced.
The act is a philosophical discussion on various topics, including morality, the nature of love,
and the meaning of life.

Throughout the play, Shaw explores the conflict between the desires of the individual and the
expectations of society, as well as the eternal battle between men and women in pursuit of
power and autonomy. Ultimately, Tanner comes to realize that he cannot escape the forces of
love and evolution, and he surrenders to his feelings for Ann.
