About her
Maya Angelou was born in 1928
in Missouri. She grew up in
Arkansas. Her childhood was
difficult, despite this she loved
literature. Angelou wrote over 30
pieces of literature in her lifetime.
She passed away in 2014 after a
lifetime of legacy
(TIMES, 2018) (Biography, 2021).
Contributions
Angelou was a significant figure in literature and became
popular for her memoir, "I Know Why Caged Birds Sing." She
was deeply involved in civil rights, she worked alongside
Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Maya Angelou was also
an academic who frequently gave lectures and was a
professor at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.
Angelou was also a performer who directed her own show
called, "Down in the Delta," she also received 3 Grammys for
her spoken albums. She was also a very big advocate for
women's rights (Times, 2018).
