Glossary

Use these terms and definitions below to understand concepts taught in the course.

Term Definition

Project / Initiative/ A temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique outcome.


Transformation
Organizational This is the process of moving an organization and its people from
Change established to new ways of thinking, working and behaving.
Management
Case for Change The reason for change. It describes why the change is necessary
and provides an answer to the question ‘why change?’
Stakeholders People who have a stake in the change initiative.
Project Sponsor A senior executive within the organization with overall accountability
for the project.
Change Manager The person or role responsible for defining and managing the
change management effort on a particular project.
Change Sponsor The person within the organization who champions the change, and
acts as the face of the change initiative.
Change Leaders These are the individuals tasked with realizing the benefits of a
change project.
Change Champion They are committed supporters of the change effort, and normally
or Agent would have high network power and high influence in the
organization.
Change Strategy Describes the thinking in which an organization enables change.
Change Plan A collection of planned change activities, including communications,
training, organizational alignment, process and procedure changes,
culture and behavior or other activities that enable the change
outcome.
Project Scope The agreed upon work that must be done which is included in the
project.
Organizational The need for HR to perform any actions in terms of job design, and
Alignment organizational structure changes.
Change Value A quantifiable measure that is used to analyze the project outcome.
It is directly linked to realizing the benefits of a transformation.
Change Success A set of measurable criteria that outlines under what circumstances
Criteria the change outcome would be considered a success.
Risk Register A tool used to document project risk, outlining actions required to
manage each risk.
