Question One (10 marks)

The machine part shown in Fig. 1 consists of a square hollow section, a solid flat bar and
2 pins. All the machine’s components are made of structural steel. If the machine part is
loaded at A with 1.5 kN and fixed at end B, perform the static structural analysis of the
given part using ANSYS software and write the report for the analysis.

Question Two (05 marks)
Th turbine blade section shown in Fig.2 has internal fluid cooling channels, and is
exposed to high temperature gas on the outer surfaces. Steady state conditions are
assumed. The material properties are: thermal conductivity, k = 52 W/mK; convective
coefficient, outer,h0 = 500 W/m2 K; T∞,0 = 1000 0 C; and convective coefficient, channel,
hi = 200 W/m2 K; T∞,0 = 100 0 C. Estimate the temperature distribution and heat flux in
the blade section using ANSYS software.

Question (05 marks)

Figure 1 shows the driving mechanism of a reciprocating compressor. Use ADAMS
software to plot

(a) Displacement diagram of the piston displacement relative to the crankshaft rotation.
(2 marks)

(b) Piston displacement relative to time when the crankshaft is driven by an electric motor
at 1750 rpm. (2 marks)

(c) The variation of the angle between camshaft and connecting rod with time. Comment
on your answer. (1 mark)

Assume appropriate dimensions and material for the links where necessary.
