1.0 Safety Precautions:

1.1 Use mandatory PPEs.

1.2 Walkie Talkie sets and spare batteries should be fully charged for all shift
personnel.
1.3 Proper tagging of solenoid valves, manual valves and other devices of the Inergen
gas system
1.4 Work site should have sufficient lighting along with Flash Lights available for the
field staff.
1.5 Entry Exit routes of work site must be clear of all obstructions.

2.0 Pre-Requisites:

2.1 All PTW related to Inergen Gas System should be cancelled.

2.2 All alarms must be reset before taking the system back in service after isolation.
2.3 If any false alarm exists it must be reset before taking the system back in service.

3.0 Inergen Gas System Operating Procedure:

Sr# Actions Responsibility

This system is an automated system and all actions for the release of Gas to suppress fire are
automatic

1 Fire detectors will detect fire of the respective zones. Auto

The signal generated will activate the pilot cylinders and the respective zone’s
2 Auto
solenoid valve at the solenoid manifold.
Each Solenoid valve operates through the electronic signal generated and
3 Auto
Supplies gas to two locations
Pilot cylinder Gas operates the mechanical delay switch mechanism which
4 releases the Inergen gas from different cylinder racks through a main/reserve Auto
switch box.
5 Electrical Delay switch operates from signal generated from FMZ-5000 Auto

6 When the Main cylinders are being consumed and there is need of more FO

firefighting the only manual action is done to release the reserve cylinders by
operating the valve position from main to reserve.
As the mechanical and electrical delay switches operate the device holding the
7 Auto
weight (hammer) gets loose and the hammer falls down.
As the hammer falls down, the assembly attached to the hammer moves and
8 opens the valves of all the Inergen gas cylinders causing the gas to release and Auto
move into their respective pipework towards the intended zone.
9 Pilot Cylinder gas also opens the DN-50 valve of respective zone. Auto

Manual release button is also facilitated in case auto system fails to activate.
10 Manual release button of respective area is pushed to activate the sequence SM/FO
manually.
Manual hold and abort push button is also facilitated to hold the release of gas
11 in case any evacuation is required and also aborting the sequence when SM/FO
required.

4.0 Inergen Gas System Isolation/de-isolation Procedure:

Sr# Actions Responsibility

Isolation of Single Zone

Isolation might be required to check the integrity of the fire detection system
NOTE
or while checking the HVAC system.
Zone to be isolated must be clearly mentioned in the permit request, permit
1 SM
itself and isolation certificate
Zone to be isolated by putting the selector switch outside the respective zone to
2 FO
manual mode.
Tag must be applied on the selector switch and also on the manual release
3 FO
button to avoid accidental push of the button.
4 Insert the Pin and remove the ferrule of the respective zone solenoid valve. FO

Lock the mechanical delay switch of respective zones main and reserve bottles
5 FO
to avoid release of hammer (Optional)
NOTE At Fatima Energy a single Inergen System serves all the areas so isolating a
zone by simply putting the selector switch into manual mode is not a desirable
solution as Inergen system can still be activated by pushing the release
button. Removing the ferrule and inserting pin of the respected zone solenoid

however can stop the release of gas but still pilot cylinder will get activated.

Isolation of whole system

Isolation might be required to check the integrity of the fire detection system,
NOTE
refilling of bottles or while checking the HVAC system.
Job must be clearly mentioned in the permit request, permit itself and isolation

certificate
2 Put the selector switch outside the respective zones to Manual Mode. FO

Tag must be applied on the selector switch and also on the manual release
3 FO
button.
4 Insert the Pin and remove the ferrules of both pilot cylinder solenoid valves. FO

5 Insert pins and remove the ferrules of all solenoid valves. FO

Lock the mechanical delay switch of all main and reserve bottle racks to avoid
6 FO
release of hammer (Optional)

De-isolation of System
Ensure before taking the system in service that all alarms in CCR and at local
1 CRS/FO
panel are reset.
2 Remove the locks from the mechanical delay switches. FO

3 In case any solenoid valve was active, reset it by using the special resetting tool. FO

4 Place ferrules over them and remove the pins from all the solenoid valves. FO

5 Place ferrules and remove pins from pilot cylinder solenoid valves. FO

6 Ensure once again that all alarms are reset. CRS/FO

7 Put the selector switch in auto of all zones FO
