WHAT IS CULTURAL PSYCHOLOGY?
01 is the study of the way cultural traditions and social practices
regulate, express, and transform the human psyche, resulting
less in psychic unity for humankind than in ethnic divergences
in mind, self, and emotion.”

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF CULTURAL PSYCHOLOGY?

02 The goal of cultural psychology is to be more inclusive when

explaining psychological theories. Traditionally, most theories have
revolved around persons from wealthier nations in the Western
hemisphere.

WHAT DO YOU LEARN IN CULTURAL PSYCHOLOGY?

03 In cultural psychology, you learn how the institutions of a given culture
affect the psychological makeup of individuals within that culture and how
the individuals affect those institutions. This varies from culture to culture
and challenges the notion all cultures influence individuals similarly.

WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF CULTURAL PSYCHOLOGY?

04 An example of cultural psychology would be a Fortune 500 company initiating a
program to enhance workplace diversity. The business could hire a full-time
cultural psychologist who would be in charge of implementing programs and
overseeing policies that foster feelings of cultural sensitivity.

Applications
The most well-known application of psychology is its clinical
aspect, which aims to help solve mental and behavioral problems
to improve people's quality of life. Community psychology
shares similar goals with clinical psychology, but its focus is
more macro, as it works with large population groups rather than
individuals.

Other well-known branches of this science include educational

psychology, which analyzes learning with the goal of enhancing
it, and organizational psychology, which applies theories
developed by social psychology to the professional sphere.

Forensic psychology, on the other hand, focuses on

psychological assessment to support legal processes, while
sports psychology aims to improve athletic performance.

Community psychologists focus on understanding and

addressing social issues within communities. They may work on
issues such as poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, and
community development, often collaborating with community
organizations and policymakers. Iván Pardo 8-985-2079
