INTRODUCTION:
As reported by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC),
the quantity of atmospheric Greenhouse Gas (GHG) concentrations in the atmosphere has
elevated by an average of 1.6% annually over the last three decades, primarily contributed by
carbon dioxide gas (CO2), and is currently considered to be one of the top three issues facing
the world today.1
Decarbonisation (also referred to as decarbonization across the Atlantic) refers to the process
of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions resulting from human activity in the atmosphere.
The current (and optimistic) objective of decarbonisation is to, eventually, eliminate our carbon
dioxide emissions.2
Decarbonizing the energy system requires a fundamental transformation in the way societies
provide, transport and consume energy.3
The challenges on the way to a decarbonized energy sector are identified with respect to
environmental sustainability, security of energy supply, economic stability and social aspects.4
TEAM TASK:
Each team is requested to propose and review strategies to help accelerating the decarborization
of the energy sector while ensuring that these solutions are rapidly adopted at scale (e.g.,
Hydrogen,CCUS, electrification, new regulations... ).
The teams are expected to take into consideration technical, economical and technological
aspects in their work.
Teams shall present a written paper proposal and a PowerPoint presentation in the first phase
of the competition. Only 5 teams will be selected to participate in the finals and they are
requested to send a Pre-recorded video presentation.
COMPETITION RULES:
JUDGING CRITERIA:
DELIVERABLES:
Finals: Pre-recorded video presentation (the video presentation can only be a maximum
of 10 minutes).
