Question 11. Akkas gas field is an Iraqi natural gas field that discovered in 1992. Akkas field was
started to be produced with 400 million cubic feet/day gas production. Figure 1 illustrates the cross
section for Akkas field in North West – South East direction (inside the red rectangle). The field has
two productive layers separated with thick shale barrier: The upper layer has only gas, while the
lower productive layer has thick gas column followed by very thin oil zone as shown in the picture.

b) Which secondary recovery methods would you prefer to apply to the field to improve the
recovery?
