Dream School Project

Directions: Working individually or with 1 partner of your choice, you will design your dream
school. You will have class time on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and you will be
presenting your finished project to the class on Thursday. Your finished project must be in the
form of a Google Presentation, Google Site, Animoto, or Prezi. It must contain the following
components:

1. A mission statement
o What is the point of your school?
2. A campus
o Where will your school be located?
o What will your school campus look like?
3. The classrooms
o What will your classrooms look like?
4. The teachers
o Who will your teachers be? What will their backgrounds/qualifications be?
5. The curriculum
o How will your school teach students reading, writing, mathematics, science, and
history?
o What other courses/skills/subjects will be taught at your school?
6. Assessment
o How will students show that they are learning? (quizzes, tests, projects,
interviews, discussions?)
o How will you make sure that all students are supported? (all students have
different strengths and weaknesses)
o How are students held accountable for their learning? (i.e. grades)
7. The school day
o What will a typical day at your school look like? (this includes how long the
school day is, how long individual class periods are, and what lessons look like)
8. School norms
o How will your school operate? What norms/procedures will exist? (dress code,
discipline system, tardy policy, classroom disruptions, etc.)

Things to Keep in Mind:

- I will be sharing these projects with Mr. Balogh and the other teachers. This is your opportunity to let us
know of things that you think will really make Del Rio a better school. Make sure that you explain the
reasons behind your decisions.
- Because this is your “dream school,” feel free to be creative. However, if you actually want an opportunity
to see some of your ideas implemented, they must be realistic for a public school in California. For
example, while it might be fun to imagine a classroom where the lessons are 15-minutes long and consist of
eating nachos and playing Black Ops II, that is not likely to happen in a public school in California.
- A teacher friend of mine had his students work on a similar project. Their finished projects can be useful to
you and they can be found here:
