ABSTRACT

Health and Hygiene are two essential concepts when it comes to the human body.
Health refers to the state of physically as well a mental wellbeing.
Health also encompasses the social wellbeing of an individual. Health is not just about
being fit but also having the appropriate resources to live. Having a sound body and mind is an
indication of good health. Hygiene refers to maintaining good health through practices that
focus on cleanliness. Good Hygiene helps to prevent the spread of diseases and illnesses.
Hygiene and health go hand in hand. In today's world, where pollution levels are rising
and numerous diseases emerging, good health and Hygiene are a necessity. Good health is an
asset for individuals, their communities and the nation at large. A nation cannot progress
without a healthy population. There are large numbers of factors which affect our health. Some
of these are balanced food, clean water and clean environment which help to remain healthy
while others such as germs and stressful environment cause diseases and disorders. We will
learn that good health implies both physical and mental wellbeing. It, however, requires
consistent efforts to maintain good health, at both personal and community levels

CHAPTER-3:
COMMUNITY SERVICE PART

3.1 Activities conducted:

Awareness on Health and Hygiene:

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), "Hygiene refers to conditions and
practices that help to maintain health and prevent the spread of diseases." Personal hygiene refers
to maintaining the body's cleanliness.

Awareness on Cleanliness:
We are all predisposed to a wide range of disorders worldwide, which helps to lessen the
need for scientific aid. A significant fraction of the global population is affected by diseases including
diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cancer, gastrointestinal difficulties, asthma, and lung
problems. Some of these illnesses are fatal, and there is no treatment that can prolong life. A person
who lives in a clean environment has very few ailments. This person will no longer need to take
medicine to be healthy. By keeping personal hygiene, it defends against several bacteria and viruses.

Nutritious food

One needs to consume healthful meals for good health. We consume a portion of our meals
that is healthful and keeps our bodies warm. While every other portion has physical effectson the
body's flesh, which aids in providing strength.

Clear Water

Pure water is one of the primary sources of good health and cleanliness. Water is one of
the components that make up our body, despite the fact that it seems to be an everyday item.
Many people become ill as a result of drinking contaminated water

4
Cleanliness

One of the most important components of optimal health is cleanliness. Thus, maintaining
yourself and your surroundings tidy and clean requires a hygiene addiction. There are
microorganisms that grow anywhere, there is filth.

Routine exercise

Exercise on a regular basis is essential for maintaining perfect health. Every morning and
every evening, taking a walk outside strengthens the muscles in the limbs and speeds up blood
flow.

Awareness on Common Infectious Diseases:

Good hygiene is vital because it helps prevent you and your children from getting or
spreading germs and infectious diseases. The germs that cause many diseases can be passed on
through touching other people, getting faces (poo) on your hands, handling contaminated food, or
coming into contact with dirty surfaces or objects. Conditions that you can develop if you have
poor personal hygiene include:
• COVID-19 and other infectious diseases
• Diarrhea, especially gastroenteritis
• Respiratory infections, including colds and flu
• Staph infections
• Worm-related conditions, such as threadworms
• Scabies
• Trachoma, an eye infection which can lead to blindness.
• Tinea Pedis or athlete’s foot
• Tooth decay
Awareness on proper care and maintenance of good health:
Good personal hygiene is one of the best ways to protect yourself from getting gastro or
infectious diseases such as COVID-19, colds and flu. Washing your hands with soap removes
germs that can make you ill. Maintaining good personal hygiene will also help prevent you from
spreading diseases to other people. Personal hygiene includes:
• Cleaning your body every day.
• Washing your hands with soap after going to the toilet.
• Brushing your teeth twice a day.
5
• Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue (or your sleeve) when sneezing or coughing.
• Washing your hands after handling pets and other animals. To slow the spread of COVID-19,
you should:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
• Clean and disinfect surfaces you use often such as bench tops, desks and doorknobs.
• Clean and disinfect objects you use often such as mobile phones, keys, wallets and work passes.
• Increase the amount of fresh air by opening windows or changing air conditioning.

Health Management Techniques:

Healthcare leaders are working hard to continuously refine and advance their processes in
order to improve patient care, reduce costs, and improve the patient’s overall experience and
satisfaction. Healthcare project management skills have, because they help control costs, manage
risk, and improve project outcomes. By applying project management techniques, from waterfall
to agile methodologies, organizations can systematically plan, organize, and execute a set of tasks
maximizing resources and achieving specific goals. The bacteria in your gut, collectively, are
incredibly important for overall health. A disruption in gut bacteria is linked to some chronic
diseases, including obesity and a myriad of digestive problem.

CHAPTER-5:
OUTCOMES DESCRIPTION

5.1 Socio Survey:

The main goal of Health and hygiene is not to adapt good health, but improving the day-to-day life
activities as good manner. For this we have conducted a survey on Health and Hygiene and ask some
questions to the community.

Some of the Survey questions:

1) How often do you wash your hands with soap and water?
2) Do you have access to clean and safe drinking water in your community?
3) What form of drinking water are you using?
4) On average how many hours of sleep do you get for night?
5) After cleaning the house, what will you do the waste materials?
6) Do you know about balanced diet?
7) Do you follow proper food hygiene practical?
8) Do you engage in regular physical exercise?
9) Do you cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing?
10) Are you experiencing any symptoms of illness currently?

11
5.2 Problems identified in the community:
When we have conducting survey among the community. We have identified some problems in the
community like
• In Health and Hygiene
• With out following hygiene methods there suffered with different viral fevers etc.,
• Sanitation problems
• Water facilities
These are the problems identified in the village which can be solved in short term as well as long term
period of time.

In Health and Hygiene:

When we have done our survey, we observing not most of households uses in Health and
Hygiene for good health. and they also said that Health and Hygiene is highly invested and doesn’t give
so that they use in Health and Hygiene. And some of householders said that lack of proper guidance
they don’t follow in Health and Hygiene.

Without following hygiene methods:

For-there good and proper health there need to follow some methods such as there need to
wash they hands as while doing-there regular works before they take lunch, breakfast… and they need
to maintain a clean and clear surrounding nearby them for the good and proper health.

Drinking Water problems:

In village there are some issues regarding drinking water as there was no quality in the drinking
water as it’s containing some spots with the different colors which are harmful to our health developed
by microorganisms and bacteria in the water…as we know that drinking water palaces a major role in
the health and hygiene community

Sanitation problems:
There was no proper sewage system in the village, then there is a chance of occurrence different
types of seasonal diseases like diarrhea and malaria etc... to the nearby located peoples as it may leads
to damage their health, as due to no proper sewage system the contaminated waste was combined with
the system of drinking water pipelines then may leads to formation of hazards in the village.

12
5.4 Short-term and long-term action plans:

Short-term action plans:

• Washing hands before and after eating

• Regular toilet habits

• Cleaning teeth

• Bathing on a regular base

• Wearing clean and comfortable clothes

• Drinking clean water

• Keeping house clean and insect free

• Cooking in clean utensils

Long-term action plans:

• Proper disposal of household wastes

• Cleaning of roads and streets

• Keeping house clean

• Covering dustbins

• Spraying insecticides at regular intervals to ward off insects

• To assign a yoga teaching department

• Conduct weekly meditation classes

13
5.5 Awareness Program w. r. t. Problems and Outcomes:

Our batch members primarily engaged in raising awareness with the community about health
and hygiene. According to the survey we conducted, some certain issues were identified, like
people are unaware of proper hygiene practices, which impacts the people’s health. Since many
of the villagers are unaware of balanced diet, we focused on making them aware of it by
explaining its importance.
Our team emphasized the importance of regular handwashing especially before meals and after
using toilet to the children. We educated them about significance of using safe and clean water
for drinking and cooking to avoid water borne illnesses. We encouraged routine health check-
ups to detect and address the health issues earlier.
Finally, this project yielded positive result.
As a team, we engaged in meaningful discussions about the project, enhancing our
communication skills.

14
5.6 Report of the mini-project work-done in the related subject w.r.t the
habitation /village:

OBJECTIVES
Oral Hygiene

Regularly brushing, flossing and using antimicrobial mouthwashes help you maintain
good oral hygiene. Proper brushing technique is vital for healthy teeth and gums. Brush twice
daily, remembering to brush your tongue and inner teeth. Limit your intake of sweet snacks
like candy and soda, which can lead to tooth decay. Replace your toothbrush every three or
four weeks.

Hand Washing

Hand washing prevents infections of all kinds. Food-borne illnesses, contagious infections
like the flu and many other pathogens can be spread via unwashed hands. Wash your hands
for 20 seconds with soap and water to effectively kill harmful microbes. Always wash hands
before eating, after using the toilet, and after handling garbage, pets or raw meat. While
antibacterial hand sanitizers are a convenient option, the friction created by soap-and-water
washing is the most effective method for killing germs.

Odor Control

Sweat, oral bacteria, dirty clothing, and oily hair or skin are common sources of
odor. Wash your armpits and apply deodorant with an antiperspirant to reduce body odor
caused by perspiration. The feet are another source of odor you should wash daily. Odor-
absorbent insoles can reduce odor caused by excessive foot sweating. Daily tooth brushing
and flossing control bad breath. Limit consumption of strong-smelling foods like onions and
garlic -- as well as tobacco products. Wash your clothes regularly using detergent and water
to remove dirt and odor; old, tattered or stained clothing should be discarded.

2 Week2
Hygiene

Community Hygiene:
The environment in which we live plays a very important role in keeping us healthy.
The practices to keep our surroundings clean should include
• Proper disposal of household wastes
• Cleaning of roads and street
• Keeping house clean
• Covering dustbins
• Spraying insecticides at regular intervals to ward off insects

"A healthy diet is essential for good health and nutrition"

According to scientists, health is a condition of total bodily and metal well-being. A healthy
person is one who is mentally and physically fit. Hygiene refers to behaviors or habits that
promote excellent health and a clean environment. Daily we eat variety of meals Food is
required by all living creatures Plants and animals both require nourishment in order to
flourish. Plants produce their own food, whereas animals rely on the sustenance of others. We
all start the day with a healthy breakfast and then cat at least two additional large meals-lunch
and dinner.

Importance of a Balanced Diet:

A person intakes appropriate amounts of proteins, minerals, and
nutrients in a balanced diet. It is quite necessary for the smooth functioning of our body. If
we consume a balanced diet regularly, we will always remain healthy. I learned any chances

16
of falling ill Moreover, a balanced diet also boosts our immunity system.

Food Components:
The five categories or components of food are

Carbohydrates:
Carbohydrates are sometimes referred so as energy-producing foods. We require energy
to do daily activities such as jogging, walking, cycling, and so on. Carbohydrate-rich foods
include potatoes, bananas, corn, sugar, cereals, and so forth

Fats:
Fats, like carbs, are considered energy-giving foods. Excess carbs are converted and stored
as far in our bodies. Meat, ghee, vegetable oil, milk, butter, cheese, and dried fruits are high in
f. Although fatty meals are required for the body, an excess of these foods leads to weight
problems such as obesity, which leads to cardiac difficulties.

Proteins:
Protein-rich diets are those that aid in the growth and repair of our bodies' muscles and
tissues. This is one of the most vital dietary categories. It helps to strengthen muscles and heal
damaged tissues in our bodies. Protein-rich foods include milk poultry, eggs, fish, soya beans,
and so on.

Vitamins:
Vitamins are organic substances that are generally classified as either fat soluble or
water soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K) dissolve
in fat and send to accumulate in the body.

Minerals:
Minerals are those elements on the earth and in foods that our dies need to develop and
function normally. Those essential for health include calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium,
chloride, magnesium, iron, zinc, iodine, chromium, copper, fluoride, molybdenum, manganese,
and selenium.

17
"Do Exercise and Stay Healthy"

Routine exercise helps improve our muscle power. Exercise helps in good oxygen supply and
blood flow throughout the body Heart and lungs work efficiently. Our bones get strong and
joints have the pain bee movement
We should daily spend at least twenty minutes in our exercise. Daily morning walk improves
our fitness level. We should avoid stress. Gym activities Exercise burns our fat and controls the
cholesterol level in the body Various outdoor games like cricket, football, volleyball, etc keeps
out body fit. Regular exercise maintains our body shape.
Use it to disinfect for the seeds. However, it can be kept for 7 days.

Disease
Sometimes the human body gets affected due to some environmental, physiological or
psychological factors which disturbs the normal functioning of the body organs. This
malfunctioning of the human body is called disease. A disease may affect a person not only
physically but also emotionally and mentally.

There are Mainly Two Types of Diseases:

• Infectious diseases
• Non-infectious diseases
Infectious Diseases
infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi,
or parasites. These diseases can be spread, directly or indirectly, from person to person or
from animals to humans. Some examples of infectious diseases include:
Some Examples:
a. Influenza (Flu):
A viral respiratory infection that can cause mild to severe illness.
b. Tuberculosis (TB):
A bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs but can also affect
other parts of the body.

18
c. Malaria:
A parasitic infection transmitted through the bite of infected
mosquitoes, causing symptoms such as fever and chills.
d. Common Cold:
Caused by various viruses, leading to symptoms like a runny nose,
cough, and sore throat.
e. Typhoid:
Typhoid fever is caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi,
transmitted through contaminated food or water.
Non-infectious diseases:
Non-infectious diseases, also known as non-communicable diseases (NCDs), are medical
conditions not caused by infectious agents and are typically not spread from person to person.
Some Examples:
a. Asthma:
Asthma makes it tough to breathe because the airways get narrow and swollen.
This can cause coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Medicines help
control it.
b. Obesity:
Excessive accumulation of body fat, contributing to various health issues.
c. Stroke:
Sudden disruption of blood flow to the brain, resulting in damage to brain
cells.
d. Lung Cancer, Breast Cancer, Colorectal Cancer:
Uncontrolled cell growth and the spread of abnormal cells in various parts of
the body.
e. Depression:
Persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest or pleasure in activities.
Immunity

Immunity is a person’s ability to fight against diseases. There are two types of immunity:
1.Innate Immunity- This is present right from birth. It is non-specific. It consists of
many barriers:

19
• Physical Barriers- This includes skin, lining of respiratory tract, gastro-intestinal
lining and lining of urine- genital tracts where the germs are trapped in mucus.
• Physiological Barriers- This includes acid in the stomach and lysozymes in saliva.
• Cellular Barriers- This includes special cells like lymphocytes, monocytes,
macrophages and neutrophils.
• Cytokine Barriers- This includes interferons (a group of proteins produced by viral
infected cells) which protect the non-infected cells.
2. Acquired Immunity- This is acquired after birth either by contracting the disease or
by vaccination. It is pathogen specific and can be classified into two types:
• Active Immunity occurs when antibodies develop in response to antigens developed
during natural infection or by vaccination. It stays for a longer period and is time
taking.
• Passive Immunity occurs when antibodies develop in response to antigens forcibly
injected into our bodies. It stays for a short period and is fast in response.

3. Vaccines- A vaccine is an antigen (weakened form of germ) which when injected/

swallowed causes the body to resist the disease. It does not cause the disease but helps the
body to fight the disease when it is actually attacked by the germs. There are vaccines
available against diseases such as polio, diphtheria, tuberculosis, measles, hepatitis, small-
pox, tetanus etc.

4. Allergy- Some antigens present in the environment can cause hypersensitive reactions in
immune system.

• Such substances are called allergens. Examples include dust mites, pollen grains,
animal fur etc.
• Common symptoms are rashes, sneezing, runny nose, difficulty in breathing etc.
• Antihistamines are used generally to relieve symptoms of allergy.

CHAPTER-7:
RECOMMENDATIONS AND
CONCLUSIONS OF THE MINIPROJECT

Conclusion:

Health and Hygiene gets more nutritious and safe food. The popularity of Health food is growing
dramatically as consumer seeks the health that are thought to be healthier and safer. Hand hygiene is an
inexpensive and effective way of preventing the spread of infections and in promoting the safety and
health of our patients. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to increase knowledge on
the importance of hand hygiene and the proper technique of hand hygiene to reduce HAIs. When
provided with educational materials on hand hygiene, there was an increase in knowledge among
healthcare professionals in acute care settings. After completing a pre-and post-test survey, analysing
hand hygiene knowledge of healthcare professionals, before and after educational material was
provided, the data showed an increase in knowledge regarding hand hygiene. The goal of this project
was to raise awareness of the importance of hand hygiene and health issues in preventing the spread of
nosocomial infections, to maintain surrounding clean.

Future implementation:

Awareness camps can be held about Health and Hygiene and explained in detailed with
the advantages of Health and Hygiene. And how it’s benefitable in future by conducting awareness
camps and making videos about Health and Hygiene. And also explain the pros of in Health and Hygiene
and how it helpful to human and economic health. So finally, our project encourages the Health and
Hygiene that maintains and improves the natural balance of the immunity. To put it another way, this
hygiene technique is based on the usage of Healthy sanitizers and hygiene equipment. Health and
hygiene that keeping yourself clean will improve our lifestyle and soul. Health and hygiene phrase is
about the importance of cleanliness to gain a healthier life.

Health and hygiene is not only about physical cleaning of our body this also highlights the
cleansing and purification of our thoughts. In some traditions like Indian ones, cleanliness is an essential
part of the life style and plays an integral in every celebratory ritual. During our childhood we learn
about the importance of cleanliness from our teachers and parents our daily clean upstarts with the
28
simple process of brushing teeth and bathing. We can prevent many diseases by just washing our hands
before meal. Awareness about health and hygiene is necessary and it has been proven, Governments of
many countries such as India started special awareness program regarding health and hygiene. Apart
from the part about being healthy, we must practice cleanliness as it is a sign of goodness and purity.
