In the past few years, so much has changed in the world of
work. It used to be possible to make decisions about one’s future and plan a career
and a future path. Now, in an economy where job security is a thing of the past, lay-
offs are common, and people change jobs and careers frequently, planning a career
may seem overwhelming. We believe it is possible to look at an unpredictable
world and feel confident about career potential. The skills for building career
success are different than before, and that is why we wrote this text.

Social media has added a new spin on career explora-
tion. Now you can filter the news, search easily for in-
formation in your industry, and have current events and
employer updates sent to your e-mail or social media accounts.
Here are some of the most common social media resources and
how they can help you stay up-to-date.
Facebook. On Facebook, anytime you “like” a company
or professional organization, updates will show up in your
newsfeed. To have industry-specific information come to you,
consider “liking” a news source or informational site for your in-
dustry. Some suggestions include Mashable for techies,
MediaBistro for media-related fields, or Stylesight for fashion
trends.
Twitter. Twitter allows you to “follow” companies or people in
the fields that interest you. With Twitter, you stay on top of your
industry by reading brief entries that are 140 character or less,
may include links to helpful articles or blogs, and are connected

predictable global economy. Now, it is up to
students to adapt and respond to a rapidly

kertaa kuin elävänsä näin häväistynä. Myöskin on mahdollista, että

Tignonville oli saanut aika tärähdyksen pudotessaan, ja

tavallisissa oloissa hän olisi jäänyt makaamaan, minne oli pudonnut,

kuolemalle, kuvittelee hän sen olevan ihan kintereillään. Hänellä ei
