James Murray was born in 1780 and created many high

quality clocks during his active years which are placed
between circa 1810 and the late 1840s. A watch, clock and
chronometer maker of great repute, he was active in London
and is recorded to have worked at Royal Exchange from 1817
to 1840. He is especially known for his marine chronometers
and other precision timekeepers, James Weddell took 3
chronometers made by Murray on his third Antarctic
expedition which he embarked upon between the years
1822- 1824.His clocks were indefinitely of the highest quality
and were considered to be of the highest grade and precise.
James Murray was thought to have worked until his death,
the clockmaker passed away in the year 1847.

John Taylor was based out of Gloucester Street, London and

was a revered clockmaker of his era. A highly skilled
craftsman and clockmaker he did not venture into selling his
creations but rather retailed the same through other reputed
clockmakers, the rationale for this strategy was based on the
fact that many of the top clockmakers could not keep up with
demand, so he met the market’s demand through multiple
outlets. Taylor engraved his name on the dial and backplate,
otherwise his clocks were similar to his respective retailers
inventory. Bracket clocks in the 17th and 18th centuries were
hand-crafted. John Taylor was synonymous with his rather
decorative models. His style and work have been discussed
in two books that delve on the subject of Bracket Clocks,
namely Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World by G. H.
Baillie (published in the year 1947) and English Clocks for the
Eastern Markets by Dr. Ian White(published in the year 2012).
Although he was reknowned for his decorative works he also
created minimalistic clocks.

with Black Roman numerals with a subsidiary dial dedicated to denote
various phases of the moon. An upper handle cast in Brass. Verso
encased with a glass access door with a push open & lock mechanism.
Foliate design in continuity on the verso.
Hour and half hour strike mechanism. Repeater. Phases of the moon
displayed.

An attractive and ornate Bracket Clock, with intricately painted dial with Roman
numerals and elaborately painted panels in enamel. Brass casted frontalc
caryatid and a finely pierced top cresting. Such Bracket clocks were an integral
attribute with regards to the deco of a mansion during the yesteryears. The
clock is mounted and affixed on its original wood plinth which elevates the
presence and highlights the artistic element of the clock.The scenery depicted
in the painted panels are that of English countryside. A collector’s delight this
clock stands apart due to its exquisite ornate appeal and tranquil sensibility and
vintage mechanism functionality.

A rare and formal bracket clock, this lot is a precise embodiment of
vintage aristocratic heritage. The primary silver dial is engraved and
features Roman numerals with and an intricate foliate design pattern in
the background. Brass cast frontal caryatids and a finely pierced top
cresting. Brass cast feet with brass cast side handles.The side panels of
the clock also feature engraved design patterns in brass which is in
tandem with the overall design layout. The quaint appeal of this clock is
unique and attracts attention.
Mechanism is of hour & half hour strike. Hour strike on gongs, half hour
strike on bells. Polished wood case and elaborately engraved primary
silvered dial. One subsidiary dial for tune.
