Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Louis-

revived in 2010 and aims to honour its prestigious heritage
with watches like the 1770 Flying Tourbillon. Manufacture
Royale inculcates the values and practice of the art of haute
horlogerie. They ensure this by finishing and decorating each
individual component by hand such as the fine bridges and
the mainplate that are hand-chamfered and black-polished
with satin or perlage finish, and by straight-grained flanks on
the inside and outside.

John Taylor was based out of Gloucester Street, London and

was a revered clockmaker of his era. A highly skilled
craftsman and clockmaker he did not venture into selling his
creations but rather retailed the same through other reputed
clockmakers, the rationale for this strategy was based on the
fact that many of the top clockmakers could not keep up with
demand, so he met the market’s demand through multiple
outlets. Taylor engraved his name on the dial and backplate,
otherwise his clocks were similar to his respective retailers
inventory. Bracket clocks in the 17th and 18th centuries were
hand-crafted. John Taylor was synonymous with his rather
decorative models. His style and work have been discussed
in two books that delve on the subject of Bracket Clocks,
namely Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World by G. H.
Baillie (published in the year 1947) and English Clocks for the
Eastern Markets by Dr. Ian White(published in the year 2012).
Although he was reknowned for his decorative works he also
created minimalistic clocks.

AudemarsPiguet
On the eve of the Basel Watch-Making Fair which took place in April
1972, Audemars Piguet’s then managing director Georges Golay,
called the designer Gérald Genta and told him that the Italian
market was expecting an "unprecedented steel watch". Taking on
the challenge Gérald Genta in less than a day invented the Royal
Oak, which became AP's masterpiece.

The legacy of AP’s Royal Oak collection dates back to the 6th of
September 1651 when Oliver Cromwell's troops pursued King
Charles II, the future king of England, Scotland and Ireland. To
escape them, he took refuge in the branches of an oak tree. The tree
became the Royal Oak and a symbol of power and protection. In
commemoration of this historical event, eight ships of the British
Royal Navy took the name of HMS Royal Oak between 1664 and
1939. Gérald Genta took inspiration from one of them which were
built in 1862. This battleship was reinforced with steel plates, had
octagonal gun ports for its cannons which were secured by eight
