MICKEY MANTLE CO - AUTHORED &
SIGNED BOOK

The iconic baseball player Mickey Mantle was born in Oklahoma on the 20th of
October, 1931. Right from the beginning, he stuck to one team. His18-year
long career was spent with the New York Yankees. The year 1956 was one of
the best of his careers. He won the Triple Crown, batting .353 with 52 home
runs and 130 RBI, and won the first of two consecutive MVP awards. He later
wrote a book about his best year in baseball titled ‘My Favourite Summer
1956’. Mantle’s overall performance in 1956 was so exceptional that he was
bestowed the Hickok belt as the top American Professional athlete of the year.
He also became the only player to win a league Triple Crown as a switch hitter.
He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974. He passed
away on August 13, 1995, in Dallas, Texas.

Mickey Mantle like Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio before him, was arguably the
most beloved player of his time in New York, and in this look back at his greatest
year, written with New York Daily News sportswriter Pepe, one understands
why he was so popular. In 1956 the Yankee centerfielder won the Triple Crown,
batting .353 to beat Ted Williams, knocking in 130 runs to beat Al Kaline and
hitting 52 home runs to beat everybody. He won the Most Valuable Player
award and figured importantly in the World Series, chiefly because of a catch
he made to preserve Don Larsen's perfect game. Mantle writes as well of his
notorious escapades with Whitey Ford and Billy Martin and of his special
relationship with manager Casey Stengel, but what readers will carry away is
the picture of a fierce competitor who also seems to be a warm and generous-
hearted human being.

MUHAMMAD ALI SIGNED BOXING BOOT

Cassius Clay was born on the 17th of January, 1942. He was an American professional boxer and activist. He is widely
regarded as one of the most significant and celebrated sports figures of the 20th century. From early in his career, Ali
was known as an inspiring and controversial personality both inside and outside the ring. Cassius Clay was born and
raised in Louisville, Kentucky and began training as an amateur boxer when he was 12 years old. At age 18, he won a
gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and turned professional later
that year. At age 22, in 1964, he won the WBA, WBC and lineal heavyweight titles from Sonny Liston. Clay then
converted to Islam and changed his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali. He set an example of racial pride for
African Americans and resistance to white domination during the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. In 1966, two years
after winning the heavyweight title, Ali further antagonized the white establishment in the U.S. by refusing to be
conscripted into the U.S. military, citing his religious beliefs and opposition to American involvement in the Vietnam
War. He was eventually arrested, found guilty of draft evasion charges, and stripped of his boxing titles. He
successfully appealed in the U.S. Supreme Court, which overturned his conviction in 1971, by which time he had not
fought for nearly four years and thereby lost a period of peak performance as an athlete. His beliefs as a conscientious
objector to the war made him an icon for the larger counterculture generation. Ali is regarded as one of the leading
heavyweight boxers of the 20th century. He remains the only three time lineal heavyweight champion, having won
the title in 1964, 1974, and 1978. Between February 25 and September 19, 1964, Ali reigned as the undisputed
heavyweight champion. He is the only boxer to be named The Ring magazine Fighter of the Year six times. He was
ranked as the greatest athlete of the 20th century by Sports Illustrated, the Sports Personality of the Century by the
BBC, and the third greatest athlete of the 20th century by ESPN Sports Century. Nicknamed ‘The Greatest’, he was
involved in several historic boxing matches. Notable among these were the first Liston fight; the ‘Fight of the
Century’, ‘Super Fight II’, the ‘Thrilla in Manila’ versus his rival Joe Frazier and ‘The Rumble in the Jungle’ versus
George Foreman. At a time when most fighters let their managers do the talking, Ali took to the microphone himself.
He was often provocative and outlandish, he was known for trash talking, and often free-styled with rhyme schemes
and spoken word poetry. During his boxing career and as a activist, incorporating elements of rap and hip hop music.
As a musician, Ali recorded two spoken word albums and a rhythm and blues song and received two Grammy Award
nominations. As an actor, he performed in several films and a Broadway musical. Additionally, Ali wrote two
autobiographies, one during and one after his boxing career. Muhammad Ali passed away on the 3rd of June 2016.

A SIGNATURE SPECIMEN OF MAHATMA GANDHI

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi fondly remembered as Bapu was born on the 2nd of
October, 1869, in Porbandar. In equal parts known as Mahatma (the great) and the
Father of the Nation, his contribution to the country in unprecedented. Before
involving himself in the struggle for India’s Independence, M. K. Gandhi was a
lawyer. In 1888 he moved to London to study law and thereafter he decided to move
back to India to practice law. He soon accepted a post in South Africa and it was on
his journey there that things changed for him. During the train ride, he was thrown
out from the first-class carriage solely based on his skin colour. Feeling affronted by
this incident and realising the true magnitude of discrimination against Indian
immigrants, Gandhiji soon set up a congress in Natal to fight this cause and it was
during this period that he formulated the concept of ‘Satyagraha’ or ‘Non-Violent’
protest. This doctrine of Ahimsa that he advocated was in a way a radical move for
that time. Gandhiji returned to India in 1915 after which he made the decision to
fight for the Indian Independence. One of the most iconic moments in the history of
India’s Independence struggle was the Dandi March he organised in 1930 to protest
against Britains’ Salt Laws. Even the ‘Quit India Movement’ campaign that he began
in 1942 had a huge impact on the Britishers ruling the country. Since they couldn’t
curb the wide amount of support Gandhiji had garnered they were forced to put
him in prison. After the formulation of the Quit India movement started, there
was an unfathomable amount of pressure on the British Government and they
eventually had to accept defeat in 1947. Unfortunately, the country got a huge
blow on the 30th of January, 1948 when Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated.
Mahatma Gandhi had dedicated his life to help the downtrodden and help make
India an independent nation.

On the 2nd of October, 2019, to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gandhiji
various plays and workshops based on Mahatma Gandhi’s life & philosophy will take
place all over the country. To celebrate this event the central theme of the Indian
pavilion at the Venice Biennale was based on Gandhi and his life. The Government
has come up with the idea of publishing an anthology on Mahatma Gandhi with 150
essays from prominent personalities and academics all over the world. They have
been asked to write what Gandhiji means to them in the 21st century. Beginning
from June the National Gallery of Modern Art is organizing a summer workshop on
the theme of’ Gandhi’.
