CAMBRIDGE IGCSE™ BIOLOGY: WORKSHEET ANSWERS

Worksheet answers – Chapter 6

Worksheets 6A, 6B, 6C
Question Answer

The diagram should fill as much of the box as possible and be drawn with a sharp pencil to
1 produce clean, continuous lines. There should be no shading. The proportions of the leaf
and position of key features (e.g. the midrib and veins) should be accurate, and they should
be labelled.

Learners must first measure the length of their leaf in millimetres. Next, they should measure
2 the length of the equivalent part of their drawing in millimetres. Finally, learners must divide
the diagram measurement by the actual measurement to find the magnification (no units should
be provided).

3 The learner’s answer should be based on teacher guidance for Worksheet A / learner research
for Worksheets B and C, and should explain what has happened to their leaf.

Learners should state one for Worksheet A / two for Worksheet B / all three for Worksheet C of
the following:
4a • the starch is an energy store for the plant
• their thin shape means that light can pass through the structure and reach all cells in
the leaf
• their large surface area means that they are able to absorb a lot of light energy.

Learners should state one for Worksheet A / two for Worksheet B / all three for Worksheet C of
the following:
4b • the starch is a good source of nutrition for other organisms
• their thin shape means that they are easy to eat or to bend by other organisms
• their large surface area means that it is easy for organisms such as fungi to grow over them.
