Lesson Plan 09

CLASS 9th DATE 24-01-2024 TIME 40min

SUBJECT Physics TOPIC Work TOTAL 35

STUDENTS

LEARNING OUTCOMES
 Students will be able to define the concept of work in physics.
 Differentiate between scientific and everyday usage of the term "work."
 Understand the formula for calculating work.

TEACHING RESOURCES / AV AIDS

White board, Textbook, Marker, Duster, Calculators, Objects for demonstrations (e.g.,
books, weights, pulleys)

TEACHING STRATEGIES
Demonstration and Lecture method

WARM UP Brainstorming Session: 10 Min

ACTIVITY
Chatterbox Challenge: Give students a topic and a time
limit. They discuss the topic with a partner, aiming to use as
many words related to the topic as possible within the time.

MAIN  Define work as the product of force and displacement 5 Min

ACTIVITY in the direction of the force.
 Discuss examples of work in everyday life and in
physics contexts.
 Introduce the formula: Work (W) = Force (F) ×
Displacement (d) × Cos(θ), where θ is the angle
between force and displacement vectors.
PRESENTATIO Work is the product of the component of the force in the direction 20 Min
of the displacement and the magnitude of this displacement.
N Mathematically, the above statement is expressed as follows:
W = (F cos θ) d = F. d
Where,
 W is the work done by the force.
 F is the force, d is the displacement caused by force
 θ is the angle between the force vector and the
displacement vector
The dimension of work is the same as that of energy and is given
as, [ML2T–2].
Unit of Work
The SI unit of work is the joule (J), which is defined as the work
done by a force of 1 Newton in moving an object through a
distance of 1 meter in the direction of the force.

A weightlifter lifts a barbell weighing 25 kg and displaces it from

the ground by 2 m. Here, the work done upon the barbell is
against gravity.
Work Done = (Mass × acceleration due to gravity) ×
Displacement
= (25 × 9.8) × 2 J
SUM UP  Summarize key points about work and its calculation. 2 Min
 Review examples and ensure understanding among
students.

ASSESSMENT  Conduct a brief quiz to assess students' 3 Min

understanding of work and energy concepts.
 Review quiz answers with the class to clarify any
misconceptions.

HOME ASSIGNMENT 1 Min

 Students will be assigned a set of problems related to work and energy to
be completed independently.
 Problems will cover various scenarios involving different types of forces
and displacements.
