Acceleration STUDENTS

LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Students will be able to define acceleration and differentiate between its types: average,
instantaneous, and constant.
2. Understand the formulas used to calculate each type of acceleration.
TEACHING RESOURCES / AV AIDS
White board, Textbook, Marker, Duster, Stopwatch, Measuring tape or ruler, Toy cars or objects for
demonstrations, Calculators

TEACHING STRATEGIES
Lecture & Demonstration method

WARM UP Brainstorming Session: 10

ACTIVITY 1. Divide students into small groups. Min
2. Provide each group with a list of scenarios involving
acceleration, such as a car accelerating from a traffic light, a
ball rolling down a slope, or a rocket launching into space.
3. Encourage groups to brainstorm and discuss the type(s) of
acceleration present in each scenario and the factors
influencing them.
4. Have each group present their findings to the class,
discussing their reasoning behind identifying the type(s) of
acceleration.
5. Facilitate a class discussion to compare and contrast the
different scenarios and types of acceleration identified by
each group.
6. Conclude the activity by summarizing the key concepts
learned about acceleration and its applications in various
situations.
MAIN ACTIVITY  Define average acceleration as the change in velocity over 5 Min
time and demonstrate calculating it using simple scenarios.
 Explain instantaneous acceleration as the acceleration at a
specific moment in time and demonstrate its calculation.
 Discuss constant acceleration, emphasizing uniform changes
in velocity over time.

PRESENTATION Types of Acceleration: 20

Min
1. Average Acceleration: The change in velocity over a
specific time interval. It is calculated using the formula:
Average Acceleration=Δt/Δv.

2. Instantaneous Acceleration: The acceleration of an object

at a particular instant in time. It can be determined by taking
the derivative of the velocity-time graph.

3. Constant Acceleration: When an object's velocity changes

by the same amount over equal time intervals. It is
represented by a straight line on a velocity-time graph.

SUM UP  Review key concepts of each type of acceleration and their 2 Min
significance.
 Encourage students to reflect on how understanding
acceleration can explain various phenomena in the world
around them.

ASSESSMENT Evaluate students' understanding through group participation 2 Min

during discussions and activities.

Assess students' ability to calculate different types of acceleration

accurately.

HOME ASSIGNMENT 1 Min

Solve the following acceleration problems:
 A car accelerates from rest to 30 m/s in 6 seconds. Calculate its average acceleration.
 An object moving with a velocity of 20 m/s experiences an acceleration of 5 m/s².
Determine its final velocity after 4 seconds.
 A rocket accelerates uniformly from 0 m/s to 300 m/s in 10 seconds. Calculate its
acceleration.
