2 SCOPE
This Plan is mandatory and shall apply to all operational activities carried by AMMICO personnel
and its Sub-Contractors within EPICON Piling Project, and covers all personnel involved in
construction related activities or operations, including both field and offices.
3 DEFINITIONS
3.1 Heat Rash
Heat rash, also known as prickly heat, may occur in hot, humid environments where sweat is
not easily removed from the surface of the skin by evaporation. This is common when using
protective equipment especially impermeable clothing. Heat rash can become uncomfortable
when extensive or complicated by infection.
3.6 Acclimatization
A process of adapting or becoming accustomed to a new climate or environment.

5 RESPONSIBILITIES
It shall be the responsibility of the AMMICO Managers to ensure that the requirements of this Plan
and Practice are adhered to.
It shall be the responsibility of all supervisors to ensure that the requirements of this Plan are
adhered to at all times by all employees.
It shall be the responsibility of the Site Safety Representative to check from time to time the
implementation and adherence to this Plan and report violations and/or non-compliance issues to
project management for immediate corrective action.
6 PLAN
AMMICO’s occupational environments and/or physical activities may expose their workers to
temperatures, which could be excessive and may threaten their health and productivity. The
following serves as a guideline in managing work in high temperature environments and/or during
the summer period (15 June to 15 September):
6.1 Working Hours
AMMICO working hours during the summer period form 15 June to 15 September as per
Saudi Government rules and regulations, will be as follow:
6.1.1 Offices and activities not affected by direct sunlight:
Morning Session from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Night Shift from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM with one hour break for Dinner and also prayer
and tea break
6.1.2 Site Activities affected by direct sunlight:
Morning Session from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Humidity
Required work clothing - the potential for heat stress increases as the in permeability
of the work clothing increases
Employee conditioning and/or acclimatization
Scheduling of physical activities in the summer months during the coolest part of the
day to the extent reasonably practicable
Providing “working in summer heat” inductions and campaign programs
Rehydration Work-rest
Working Zones Interventions Schedule schedule

AMMICO will use Scarlet TWL-1S Heat Stress Monitor as below in Fig 01 to measure
TWL and to determine the work, rest breaks and water consumption requirements for
the workers.
At high workloads and or thermal stress, sweat rates exceed 1.2 litre/hr. Increasing
fluid intake much above this level is not practical due to gastric discomfort as the upper
limit for gastric emptying and fluid absorption is 1.5 litters/hr so control solutions to
improve thermal conditions should be implemented in addition to providing adequate
hydration to replace sweat lost.
