SPANISH/ENGLISH ACTIVITIES
Perfect for the preschool classroom and daycare centers, library
and bookstore events, and even for parents and guardians keeping
babies ages 0-2 busy at home, these activities will help introduce
the youngest learners to the English and Spanish languages.

apple • manzana

1) A IS FOR APPLE
Using play kitchen food, assemble a variety of fruits or vegetables whose names match up
with letters from the English alphabet. When you hand each item to baby, say the name in both
English and Spanish, so they learn to associate both names with the object.

2) ANIMAL SOUNDS
Play a short video of some animals, like elephants, dogs, chickens, lions, and pigs, many of
which can be found on YouTube. Say the name of each animal in English and Spanish, then
make the appropriate animal sound and encourage baby to repeat the name and sound.

3) STUFFED ANIMAL SAFARI

Create a sectioned-off play space with stuffed animals spread out. Let baby explore their
surroundings. When they encounter an animal, say the name in Spanish and English.

4) HAND PAINTING
Set up a craft station with non-toxic washable color paints. Brush the paints onto baby’s hands
and say the colors in both Spanish and English as they are being painted on. Then, stamp baby’s
hand on a paper. Repeat with multiple colors. Together you can create finger paint rainbows,
or even turn hand prints into a color flower garden!

5) COUNTING SOUNDS
Have a variety of easy-to-use instruments (tambourines, maracas, shakers, etc.) and make
a noise. Count each noise made. Then repeat, counting in Spanish. Allow baby to shake the
instruments themselves, and count with them.

6) DANCE PARTY
Play the song “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” and encourage baby to
dance to it by touching the corresponding body part alongside the lyrics.
Then, play “Cabeza y Hombros,” the Spanish-language version, and do the
same. Both songs have multiple versions readily available on YouTube.

teddy bear • oso de peluche
