BURGERSFORT - An Alverton family of
three were left homeless after a massive fire
destroyed their shack on Monday May 20.
The cause of the blaze is unknown, and
fortunately no one was injured.
The Selahle family’s shack in Lebowa

to enforce a zero-tolerance approach to
curb the scourge of illegal mining in the
province.
The multidisciplinary forces comprised
of the SAPS Tactical Response Team,
Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Public
Order Police and the National Intervention
Unit, in collaboration with the SANDF and
the home affairs department, continue with
these high-density operations.
They recovered a tipper truck in Ga-
Makgopa Village outside Burgersfort on
Saturday May 18 during a raiding of illegal
mining and unlawful transportation of
precious minerals.
“The team intercepted a tipper truck
consisting of two trailers loaded with
suspected stolen chrome and a Scania
truck after the driver, an unknown male,
fled on foot, evading arrest and leaving the
truck behind,” said the Limpopo police
spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
He said the police confiscated the trailers
and the Scania truck with the loaded chrome
for further investigations. The SAPS urged
local communities to report any forms of
illegal mining.

LYDENBURG - Die Watervalsrivier
Sitrusfees van die afgelope naweek was
weer ’n reusesukses.
Die fees het oudergewoonte die
gemeenskap tydens ’n onvergeetlike
dag propvol lewendige vermaak, diverse
kosopsies en indrukwekkende markstalletjies
bymekaargebring.
Die fees, wat langs die Watervalsrivierpas
plaasgevind het, het die allerbeste
plaaslike en nasionale talent, kookkuns en
vakmanskap ten toon gestel en het meer as
700 feesgangers gelok.
Dit is die CVO Watervalsrivier se grootste
fondsinsamelingsprojek. Die fees is ook op
die netjiese gronde van dié skool gehou.
Die fees se groot trekpleister was natuurlik
kunstenaars soos Adam, Jezelle, Dirk van
Je-Lanié en Jean-Marie Kriel.

skooldag in ’n onvergeetlike avontuur
vir die leerders, onderwysers en ouers
omskep het.
Die geleentheid, wat as ’n insameling-
fonds deur gr. 7 begin is, het alle
verwagtinge oortref en was ’n dawerende
sukses wat almal gretig laat uitsien het na
’n moontlike volgende wedren.
Die skool se ruim rugbyveld is in ’n
minirenbaan omskep, volledig met kegels,
baniere en geruite vlae. Die atmosfeer
het gegons van opgewondenheid toe die
leerders opdaag. Toe die onnies en ouers
mekaar eerste die stryd aansê, was die
lekkerkry se koeël deur die kerk.

Youngsters learn basics
of rugby and netball

Laerskool Ohrigstad
welcomed three local schools,
Laerskool Steelpoort,
Burgersfort and Treeside Private
Academy, on May 15 for some
netball and rugby games.
The aspiring young players
gathered to learn the finer
tricks of these two sport codes.
It was the first time some of
them had officially engaged
in a competitive match, but
they showcased some talent
nevertheless. The youngsters
indicated they wanted to
