Revision: Clarification of service instructions. Reinforced version of polymer replaces original version.

New and improved clutch between oil pump and crankshaft on SMC 100, TSMC 100 and HPC
Mk4 reciprocating compressors
As you will know, the clutch has up to now been made of cast iron, which has sometimes resulted in noise from the
clutch between the oil pump and the crankshaft.
Therefore, a new clutch has been made of synthetic (polymer) material and it can replace the former clutch of cast
iron without changes on the compressor. Further, a reinforced version of the polymer clutch was introduced in March
2011. The reason for the reinforced version was a few broken clutches of the original version, related to torsional
vibrations. The difference between the original and reinforced version of the polymer clutch is the shaft diameter as
shown below, 28 and 29 mm respectively.

Service instructions
It is strongly recommended to replace the old steel type clutch supplied before 2009 with the new type at first coming
ordinary compressor service. In general, there is no reason to upgrade from the original version of the polymer clutch
to the reinforced version of the polymer clutch. However, in case of damage to the original version, the compressor

should be upgraded with the reinforced version to resolve the problem. For compressors still in warranty the factory
will cover this under standard warranty conditions. Please contact our Warranty Department.

Spare parts
The new kit part no. 3184.486 consists of the following parts:

Pos. 1 Reinfoced clutch for oil pump 1 pc. Part no. 2125.480
Pos. 2 Cylindrical screw M12x25 2 pcs. Part no. 1413.385
Pos. 3 Washer 2 pcs. Part no. 1436.083

Mounting instructions
1. Stop and evacuate compressor
2. Remove screws at pos. 11C-1 and remove oil pump pos. 11A-1
3. Through pump house pos. 4A-1, remove screws at pos. 7C-1 and washers 7B-1
4. Replace old clutch pos. 7A-1 with new clutch
5. Fasten clutch with washers and screws in delivered kit with 50 Nm
Note: Secure screws pos. 7C-1 with Loctite® #243

The original polymer clutch 2125.280 was mounted on all factory-made compressors as of 22 January 2009.
The reinforced polymer clutch 2125.480 was gradually implemented on compressors from March 2011.
