structure of door opening and is depressed by door edges when
the door is closed.

There are two handrails, one is a folding handrail and another is a

removable handrail.

The retraction and extension of the door is obtained manually and

the latching/unlatching can be carried out by means of two
handles, either internally or externally to fuselage.

PASSENGER DOOR OPERATION

Door opening
The door can be opened from A/C outside by pulling out and
downwards the outer operating handle up to fully extended
position.

Door closing

Before closing the door, remove the pin-quick release (security

pin), of handrail secondary, and put it on its stand on stanchion for
fold handrail.

The door can be closed from A/C outside by manually lifting the
door from the ground and pushing it inside the fuselage opening.
Then push inwards the outer operating handle until it is flush with
door outer skin inside the handle box.

The confirmation of door Latching and locking is given by flags

bearing the word "LOCKED" visible through the view ports
installed on integral steps structure.

Note: Opening and closing procedures from inside are similar to

procedures used for the operation from outside.

EMERGENCY EXIT
GENERAL

Three emergency exits are provided for evacuation of the

passenger and flight compartments.

Two doors are located one on each side of the fuselage

compartment between FR 18 and FR 19 and between STR 6 and
STR 12 while a pilot overhead hatch is located in the flight
compartment fuselage crown structure between FR 9 and FR 12.

PASSENGER COMPARTMENT EMERGENCY EXIT

General
The two emergency exit doors (type Ill) of passenger
compartment are hinged on the bottom (two spigot type hinge)
and open inwards rotating on hinges and falling down.

The locking mechanism may be operated either from A/C outside

or inside.

The outer handle has also the rule of vent door to prevent the
cabin pressurization to an unsafe level if the door is not
completely locked.

Five stops are installed on door pan structure, two per side (FWD
and AFT) and one on upper side while a simple locking
mechanism serves to protrude or retract a shoot bolt upper side of
the door to lock and unlock the door in the fuselage opening.

A pressure seal is installed on door pan near the door outer skin
periphery and is depressed by the fuselage skin surrounding the
door cutout when the door is closed.

A window is provided in the center section of the door to allow the

passengers to look outside.

Door Opening from A/C Outside

The door is opened from outside by pushing the handle until the
shoot bolt disengages the retainer on fuselage, then leaving the
door to come inside the fuselage.

Note: When the door is opened from out side it is not possible to
hold it during the rotation and it falls down in the passenger
compartment.

Door Opening from A/C Inside

The door is opened from inside by pulling down the inner handle
to unlock the shoot bolt from the upper door jamb, then the door
will rotate inwards on lower hinges and holding it by inner handle,
will be removed completely from the fuselage opening.

Note: Closing of the door is possible from inside the A/C only.

General
The emergency hatch is hinged on forward side (two spigot type
hinge) and opens inwards rotating on hinges and falling down.

Two stops installed on aft side serve to carry the pressurization

load.

A pressure seal which serves also to avoid the rain entering

inside the flight compartment is mounted around the hatch pan
near the hatch outer skin, and is depressed by the fuselage skin
surrounding the hatch cutout when the hatch is closed.

Two handles (internal and external) operate an internal device

which in turn pushes or retracts a shoot bolt to lock and unlock the
hatch in the fuselage opening.

One escape rope and some steps are built on lateral side of the
electric rack to allow evacuation through opening of the hatch.

A microswitch is located on the fuselage in correspondence with

the shoot bolt to provide an alerting signal if the door is not fully
locked and in addition a proximity switch is installed inside the
door that senses the lock position of internal handle

Hatch Opening from A/C Outside

The hatch is opened from outside by pressing a handle release
button (to clear the outer handle from the stowed position) then by
pulling the handle forwards to unlatch the shoot bolt from the
retainer fitting installed on aft jamb.

The opening is completed by leaving the hatch free to rotate

downward around the hinge (on forward side) and to go inside the
flight compartment.

WARNING : Before releasing the outer handle it is necessary to

make sure that no crew members or other people be injured by the
hatch falling down.

Hatch Opening from A/C Inside

The hatch is opened from inside by pulling down and afterwards
the inner handle to unlock the shoot bolt from the retainer fitting on
fuselage then supporting the hatch which initially rotates on the
forward hinges and after falls down because of its own weight.

WARNING : The inner handle and the complete hatch should be

held firmly by hand to avoid its accidental fall down during
opening and removal operations.

Note: Closing of the door is possible from inside the A/C only.

Since the cargo door is not considered as an emergency exit, the
handles serve for external operation only and situated to gain
easy access from the ground.

SERVICE & ACCESS DOORS

GENERAL

Service doors are provided for the passenger compartment for

FWD and AFT avionic compartments and for cockpit inside.

The passenger compartment door is an outward opening type

(not plug type) as the AFT avionic compartment door, the FWD
avionic compartment door is a plug type, while the cockpit access
door (communication door) is a insideward type (plug type).

ACCESS DOORS
Access doors consist of forward and aft avionic compartment
doors.

Forward Avionic Compartment Door (FWD COMP)

The forward avionic compartment door is located on NLG wheel
well upper bulkhead between FR1 and FR3.

It is plug type, hinged on forward side by two conventional hinges,

opening upwards and forwards and has a lock on aft side.

A microswitch is located on fuselage in correspondence with the

lock to provide a signal alerting the crew if the door is not fully
locked.

Aft Avionic Compartment Door

The aft avionic compartment door is located on the rear fuselage
between FR 45 and FR 46.

It is non-plug type hinged on R side by means of two piano hinges

and has two Latches on Left side.

hook spring-loaded to engage the door external handle.

The service door internal mechanism consists of two separate

systems (Latching and Locking systems) which are driven by the
drive shaft actuated by the handles.

The latching system pushes longitudinally five shoot bolts

(two on forward side and three on aft side) which engage and
disengage the respective retaining rollers installed on fuselage
door jamb.

The locking system operates two Latch-Locks that engage and

disengage the upper and lower shoot bolts on aft side.

A vent door installed in the upper section of the service door outer
skin is driven by the locking mechanism in closing and opening
operations. It indicates (when not in closed position) a failure in
the venting system. The open position of the vent door prevents
the fuselage pressurization to an unsafe level.

A pressure seal (vented type) is installed on service door pan

along full periphery and is depressed by the seal depressor
installed on fuselage when the door is closed.

The door can be opened from inside by pulling the inner handle
and then rotating it 90 degrees counter-clockwise.
Pull the terminal (located on the door hinges side ) push the
door and release the terminal so that the handle engages the
hold-open hook.

Door closing
The door can be closed by pulling the terminal to disengage from
the hook.
The latching and locking can be performed by one or another of
the two handles.

For the pilot communication door, only a quick release Latch

system allows door Locking and unlocking.

The communication door is provided with pressure seal (silicone
