Peter Ducker’s Six Stages of Decision Making

Project Title: Building Girls Primary School with the help of community in
Ternol
A. Identifying problem or Opportunity

On the basis of Peter Ducker’s Six Stages of Decision Making, there is a dire need of
establishing a new primary level school for girls in the remote area of Tarnol, where there were
no other schools for girls in the nearby localities.

B. Gathering information
In this step, some of the important points are discussed:
i) There are no girls’ schools in the 5 kilometer radius of Tarnol.
ii) The population of female is denser in the locality with the age group of 4 – 12 years.
iii) The interest level of community to educate female is positive and high.
iv) The girls are travelling to their schools, located in far flung areas, more than 10
Kilometers without any vehicle.
v) Seeking awareness among the community and other stakeholders, and for that the
local norms and customs will be addressed in their education
vi) Highlighting the importance of female education

C. Analyzing Situation
This section holds the following points:
i) Female are facing problems in travelling for more than 1 hour via pedestrian on daily
basis.
ii) There is a dire need to developing school for girls as there is no school in the nearby
localities.
iii) There is a continuous support of the community in establishing the school.

D. Evaluating the options:


i) Getting piece of and for building of school
ii) The participation and involvement of community in building the school.
iii) Collection of donation from the community, government organizations and NGOs.
iv) Establishment of school building as per standards.

E. Selecting a preferred alternative:


i) Educating the girl through long life education approach
ii) Specifying the spot for providing volunteer teaching
iii) Providing academic material to female needy students through donation

F. Acting on the decision:


i) Preparing a feasibility report and sharing with the stakeholders
ii) Approval of the feasibility report from the stakeholders
iii) Implementation of the report and eventually continuing monitoring and evaluating the
project in hand.
