So, we are going to discuss the elements of shading.
We have five elements, first we have:

All right! Based on the answers that you provided,
let us discuss how those elements and charcoal 5 ELEMENTS OF THE SHADING
techniques can help us make beautiful charcoal TECHNIQUE
drawings. And for us to be able to make artistic
charcoal drawings. A. Highlight- the area where the light hits the
object directly. It is the only part of the
object that will have pure white.
B. Shade- the area where the light is still
touching the object, but not as directly. It
will have a very light to medium value.
C. Shadow- the part of the object where the
light is no longer touching it. It is a medium
to dark value.
D. Reflected Light- the area where the surface
is reflected onto or wraps around the object.
It is light medium value.
E. Cast Shadow- the shadow on the surface
that the object is sitting on or that the
shadow from the object is cast upon (like a
wall or another object). It is a dark value.
Cast shadows mimic the shape of the top
outline of the object. Cast shadows are
directly opposite of the light source. They
are usually tight toward the object and as
they move away become fuzzy or blurry
