PREFACE

Anthropocene is a term used to describe the current geological epoch, which is

characterized by the significant impact that human activity has had on the Earth’s ecosystems,

geology, and atmosphere. It is a proposed geological time period that reflects the unprecedented

influence that humans have had on the planet since the Industrial Revolution. The term

‘Anthropocene’ comes from the Greek words ‘anthropos,’ which means ‘human,’ and ‘kainos,’

which means ‘new’ or ‘recent.’

The dissertation entitled Tracing the Anthropocene: A Comparative Approach to the

Movies The Road and The Midnight Sky is a comparative study between the movies The Road

and The Midnight Sky in terms of Anthropocene employed in the movies.

The introductory chapter depicts an overview of Anthropocene. This part discusses the term

Anthropocene, it’s roots, theory and ecological concerns. This chapter also depicts plot of the

movies.

The second chapter entitled ‘A Comparative study between the movies The Road and

The Midnight Sky in terms of Anthropocene which includes the narration of the selected movies

The Road directed by John Hillcoat and The Midnight Sky directed by George Clooney. The

chapter provides analysis and comparative study of the movies in the light of Anthropocene.

The concluding chapter is the recap of main points and impacts of climate change on

biodiversity. It also discuss the implication of the research for conservation and policy efforts of

Anthropocene.
