MANUAL
Part Number 1503854-000
June 2023
The aerial platform is not electrically insulated. Death or serious injury will result from contact
with, or inadequate clearance from, an energized conductor.
Do not go closer than the minimum safe approach distance as defined by the Minimum Safe
Approach Distance section in Chapter 3–Safety of the machine Operator’s Manual.
If the platform, scissors structure, or any part of the aerial platform contacts a high-voltage electrical
conductor, the entire machine can become electrically charged.
If that happens, remain on the machine and do not contact any other structure or object. This includes
the ground, adjacent buildings, poles, and any other objects that are not part of the aerial platform.
Such contact could make your body a conductor to the other object, creating an electrical shock hazard
resulting in death or serious injury.
If an aerial platform is in contact with an energized conductor the platform operator must warn ground
personnel in the vicinity to stay away. Their bodies can conduct electricity creating an electrical shock
hazard resulting in death or serious injury.
Do not approach or leave the aerial platform until the electricity has been turned off.
Do not attempt to operate the lower controls when the platform, scissors structure, or any part of the
aerial platform is in contact with a high-voltage electrical conductor or if there is an immediate danger
of such contact.
Personnel on or near an aerial platform must be continuously aware of electrical hazards, recognizing
that death or serious injury can result from contact with an energized conductor.
California
Proposition 65 Warning
Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain
lead and lead components, chemicals known to the
State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or
other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.

SETUPS / INTERLOCKS MENU OPTIONS
TRIGGERonly
Determines whether and after what delay to trigger an interlock when trigger is closed with no other
function selected. Set to 0s to have no interlock. If trigger is closed with no function, for longer than
the adjustment, the operator will have to release and re-close trigger before any function is allowed.
TRIGGERwait
Determines whether and after what delay to trigger an interlock when a function is selected without
trigger being closed. Set to 0s to have no interlock. If a function is selected without trigger, for longer
than the adjustment, the operator will have to release and re-select the function before it is allowed.
TRIGGER
Determines if machine stops immediately when trigger is released while joystick is out of neutral
(HARSH) or if machines ramps down first (SOFT). If a function is selected without trigger, for longer
than the adjustment, the operator will have to release and re-select the function before it is allowed.
FUNCTIONhold
Only applicable if drive / lift mode is selected with momentary push switches; when using a drive / lift
toggle switch, leave at default 0s.
CALIBRATIONS MENU OPTIONS
(these are not adjustable and are displayed for diagnostic purposes only)
Temp Factory set to calibrate heatsink temperature (motor power may be reduced if the
heatsink temperature is too high, due to poor mounting of EZlift 230 to machine
chassis).
Current Factory set to calibrate motor current
TiltGain Factory set to calibrate EZlift 230 tilt sensor.
TiltXoff
TiltYoff
UserXoff Set when the CALIBRATE LEVEL procedure is carried out, to correct for slight
UserYoff tilt offset due to mounting of the EZlift 230 to machine chassis, and chassis to
ground.
Height1Min Set when the CALIBRATE HEIGHT (or CALIBRATE LOAD dynamic) procedure is
Height1Max carried out, to determine the EZfit module(s) measurements when the platform is
Height2Min fully lowered (0% height) and fully raised (100% height). NOTE: Height2 settings
Height2Max only relevant when two EZfit modules are installed.
ElevUp Set when the CALIBRATE HEIGHT (or CALIBRATE LOAD dynamic) procedure
ElevDown is carried out, to determine the platform height where the elevation switch/cam
opened while lifting, and closed while lowering. NOTE: Only relevant when one
EZfit module is installed
OVERLOAD CALS This sub-menu provides access to the load calibration data created during the
CALIBRATE LOAD loaded & empty procedure. Use of the available computer
program GetCurveW is recommended instead, to review load calibration data.
SERIAL NUMBER Displays the EZlift 230 serial number. The first five digits indicate year and month
yyymm/nnnnn of manufacture (eg: 20811 means November 2008) The second five digits are a
unique sequential serial number.

Codes
Diagnostics on the EZLIFT controllers are primarily accessible using the EZcal hand-held device.
Menus available include DIAGNOSTICS which offers display of information relevant to the operation
of the controller. One most important diagnostic display is MODE which can be found in the
DIAGNOSTICS/SYSTEMS menu. The purpose of MODE is to indicate the current state of the EZlift
230 controller with a short description:
INITIALIZING
Preparing to operate, immediately after power-on.
SHUTDOWN!
All operation prevented – for example both the PLATFORM & GROUND EMS inputs are active
together.
CHECK CANbus
All operation prevented – CANbus communications is not successful (for example to the platform
matrix module, if applicable).
PLATFORM, GROUND
Ready to operate, from the platform or ground controls as indicated (selected by the two EMS inputs).
GROUND UP LOCKED, GROUND DOWN LOCKED, GROUND OUT LOCKED, GROUND IN LOCKED
A ground function is selected but not allowed (for example, the switch was closed at power-on).
GROUND FAULTY
Multiple ground function inputs are active at the same time.
TRIGGER CLOSED
The platform trigger switch is closed, but no function is selected (select a function to proceed).
TRIGGER LOCKED
The platform trigger switch was closed at power-on, or closed for too long with no function selected.
(see SETUPS/INTERLOCKS/TRIGGER only)
FORWARD, REVERSE
A platform drive function is operating normally.
UP, DOWN
A platform lift/lower function is operating normally.
Continued on next page...
CONTROL TRAY
Control Board
Codes
OUT, IN
A platform deck extend/retract function is operating normally.
CHECK DRIVE/LIFT
Neither platform drive nor platform lift select is active, or both are active at the same time.
CHECK JOYSTICK
Both platform joystick directions are active at the same time.
STEER FAULTY
Both platform steer directions are active at the same time.
INTERLOCKED
An interlock shutdown is active, preventing one or more functions. The interlock can be due to many
different causes – press <ENTER> from the EZcal MODE display to see the precise cause of the
interlock (listed below) – press <ESC> from that display to return to the MODE display:
ARMGUARD
During descent, the EZlift 230 can be configured to stop movement and provide an armguard
delay (allowing time to check that everything is clear before continuing descent). Release
and re-select DOWN to continue lowering (after the delay time has passed). If the armguard
feature is not wanted, set ADJUSTMENTS/LIFT/ ARMGUARD/@HEIGHT to 101%.
BATTERY
Battery voltage is too low (or high!) to allow movement.
NO VALVE SUPPLY
Check power to P3-2.
NONE
There is no interlock (the interlock has cleared while viewing the display).
OVERLOADED
The platform is overloaded, with the EZlift 230 configured to measure overload and shut
down functions when overloaded – reduce platform load.
Continued on next page...
CONTROL TRAY
Control Board
Codes
TEST MODE
The EZlift 230 test mode is active – switch power off and on again to clear.
TILTED
The machine is tilted beyond limits, with the EZlift 230 configured to prevent some functions
when tilted (perhaps also elevated) – descend, then move machine to a more level location
(see SETUPS/TILT SETUPS/TILT SHUTDOWN and ELEV.TILT SHUTDOWN).
TOO HIGH
The platform is too high to allow some functions – descend first. (see ADJUSTMENTS/
HEIGHTS/MAX DRIVE and MAX LIFT).
TOO HOT
The EZLIFT 230 heatsink has reached 75ºc, preventing all functions except lowering.
Functions will be allowed again when the heatsink cools to below 70ºc. The heatsink
temperature can be viewed in the DIAGNOSTICS/SYSTEM/ TEMPERATURE display.
Review the installation – the heatsink must be bolted to a significant metal panel of the
machine, capable of dissipating heat to the environment.
UNCALIBRATED
The height and/or pressure sensors have not been calibrated and are required to measure
platform height and/or load. If overload functions are active ( ADJUSTMENTS/OVERLOAD
TRIP@, LAMP@ or ALARM@ set to a non-zero value) then both the height and pressure
sensors must be calibrated. If overload functions are not active, but height-based decisions
are active (ADJUSTMENTS/ HEIGHT values set to between 1% and 100%) then the height
sensors must be calibrated. Calibration procedures are accessible from the SETUPS
HEIGHT SETUPS and SETUPS/LOAD SETUPS menus.
In addition to the MODE displays detailed above, the EZlift 230 provides a HELP message display
and associated flash code LED. Various HELP messages can be displayed to indicate different
conditions; some messages also flash the LED on the controller so that even without access to an
EZcal , some simple diagnostics are possible.
IMPORTANT: It is strongly recommended not to rely on the LED flash codes, but to use an EZcal
– the HELP message and diagnostic displays provides a much higher detail of information. When
using the LED to attempt diagnosis, please note that a DUAL FLASH code is indicated. The LED
will flash on/off a certain number of times, pause off for a short delay, then flash on/off a second
certain number of times, followed by a much longer pause off. The sequence will then repeat. So for
example, the LED flash code 3/2 will look like: on/off/on/off/on/off-short-delay/on/off/on/off-long-delay/
repeat.

machine can be freely lifted/lowered and driven irrespective of any calibration needs, tilt, etc. As
soon as an EZcal is connected to the controller, the factory override state is ended, in preparation
for calibration. If calibration does not occur, then the factory override state will recur if the EZcal is
disconnected and power is switched off/on. IMPORTANT: Never use a machine in factory override;
this state is ONLY intended for use during manufacture! While factory override is active, the LED is
rapidly flashed on/off.

2................................................................................................................Battery Negative
SEM300 diagnostics are primarily accessible using the PGT EZcal hand-held.
The DIAGNOSTICS/ FUNCTIONS displays are most important in diagnosing problems with input controls:
NEUTRAL/ FWD/ REV/ UP/ DOWN/ LEFT/ RIGHT indicate selected function movements.
FWD LOCKED/ UP LOCKED/ etc indicate a selected movement is blocked (selected before ENABLE
for example).
FAULTY indicates a control has a problem (out of range joystick for example) INTERLOCKED indicates
a movement is blocked due to a machine interlock/ safety limit.
When INTERLOCKED occurs, the INTERLOCKED display (in DIAGNOSTICS/ SYSTEM) is similarly
important in diagnosing the reason - the description is generally clear:
TILTED (see the TILT SHUTDOWN and ELEV TILT SHUTDOWN setups).
OVERLOAD (see platform LOAD estimate and the OVERLOAD/TRIP@ adjustment) HEIGHT (see
platform HEIGHT and the various HEIGHT setups/ MAX limits) ARMGUARD (see HEIGHT/ARMGUARD
setup, which stops lowering for a while) EXTERNAL (vehicle specific cutouts - see vehicle wiring and
design documents) TOO HOT (review controller mounting, and motor ratings).
SINGLE FUNCTIONS (occurs if multiple movements are attempted simultaneously, and not allowed).
LOW BATTERY (see BDI/LOWBATT setups; also controller will shut down before low voltage risks
damage) SEM FIELD (check motor wiring because drive motor field current is not safe - see MOTORS
diagnostics) CHARGER (vehicle specific cutout - charger is connected).
In addition to the diagnostics displays detailed above, SEM300 provides a HELP message display and
associated flash code LED. Various HELP messages can be displayed to indicate different conditions;
the following HELP messages are “information only” - the controller LED does not flash for these:
STARTUP!
STARTING: PLEASE WAIT
Initial setups and tests are occurring (startup time less than one second, generally).
EVERYTHING OK
Ready in platform mode.
DRIVING!
LIFTING!
LOWERING!
The indicated movement is occurring - machine should be moving as requested by operator.
The following HELP messages have an associated LED flash code - however it is recommended to
always use HELP messages for troubleshooting (via PGT EZcal or Display Module):
FAULT:CHECKPRESSURESENSOR 6/2
The pressure sensor is giving an out-of-range voltage (below 0.5V or above 4.5V). Check for open-
or short- circuit wiring; replace pressure sensor and re-calibrate load if necessary.
SHUTDOWN! 1/1
Check all wiring, including the platform and ground EMS inputs
In addition to the previous HELP messages, there are the following that repeat any INTERLOCKED
function; for details see the INTERLOCKED description earlier in this document:

SETTING PRESSURES
Steer Pressure
1. Remove cap and install a 0-5000 psi pressure gauge to G Test Port (item 1 page101).
2. Steer one direction until stop both directions pressure should be 1100-1150 psi (75-79 bar).
Lift Pressure
1. Install a 0-5000 psi gauge to G Test Port (item 1 page 101).
3. When adjusting lift pressure relief (item 3 page 101, on manifold) platform should just
be able to lift capacity (add 50 lbs to make sure machine will not lift past capacity).
1. Remove pressure hose from pump and install a hose long enough to go into a clean
five gallon container.
2. Install a tee and ball valve at the end of hose going into the bucket.
3. Install a fitting for 500 psi pressure gauge. Make sure ball valve is not
closed completely.
4. Steer machine, pump will come on, slowly close ball valve until pressure equalizes.
Do not close ball valve completely as pump damage will occur. Pressure
should be 3300 psi (227 bar).
5. To adjust pump pressure turn relief (item 2 page 32). Clockwise increases pressure
and counterclockwise decreases pressure. Do not close ball valve
completely.
6. Remove ball valve and hose, reinstall pressure hose, refill hydraulic oil and check for
leaks.
