 Tone reveals the overall attitude displayed by the author in writing on

a topic.

 It is the attitude of the author towards the main idea.

 How the author treats a particular subject?

 The First and Last paragraph must be carefully read.


 Narrative tone is the narration of a series of events which are
connected to one another.

 It is akin to story-telling but without any description of events

It can be a detailed account of events but lacking analysis.


 Descriptive passages describe things, places, people or events in great
detail.

 What are describing words? Adjectives, Adverbs, similes, metaphors,


metonym. So these passages are full of such descriptions that enhance
the value of the thing, place, people or event.
 Analytical Tone is usually deductive.

 To analyse is to examine something carefully by looking at its various


parts in detail. It puts forth reasons for choosing a particular line of
thought.

 It can involve criticism of policies, ideas etc

 Analytical tone typically mentions pros and cons of something.

 It is like a multi-dimensional view of something.


 Argumentative Tone is like a debate. The author puts forth his point of
view and substantiates upon it with evidence, facts or figures etc.

Impartiality and directness are the cornerstones of argumentative tone.
