Unit Volleyball – Spike


• To understand the different technical skills (Approach, Arm Swing, Hand
Aim Contact, Wrist Snap, Follow Through and Landing) necessary for effective
spike.
At the end of this lesson , students will be able :
• To understand the importance of spike in volleyball.
• To differentiate the different technical skills (Approach, Arm Swing, Hand

➢ To ask students what they know about the term Spike in
volleyball and its importance.
o Oral questioning
Introduction ➢ To do a video viewing specific to spike.
(5 minutes) o Oral answers
➢ To briefly give an overview of the different components
include in spike.
➢ Jogging along 9 m to catch ball after rolling on ground.
Warming up
➢ To smash (no emphasis on technique) ball on ground
(5minutes)
(Warming up of shoulder joint) - Ball Familiarisation.
• To explain and demonstrate about :
o Hitting the ball
✓ To explain the importance of Wrist Snap.
✓ To perform hitting the ball with wall. Emphasis on Hand
Contact, Wrist Snap and Follow Through.
✓ Divide class into two groups. To perform hitting the ball
over the rope with partner.

o Approach and Jump Drill


✓ Students practice the Approach and Jump (without +
with) ball. To practice the foot sequence (Left – right –
left for right handed student) + Jump (paying attention
Activities about landing)
(20 minutes)
✓ Explaining the importance of landing.

o Approach , Jump & Arm Swing Drill


✓ Students practice the motion (without + with) ball.
Emphasis on the backswing, high elbow and follow-
through.

o Combined Approach, Jump, Arm Swing & Hitting


the ball.
✓ Students practice the complete spike motion with ball.
✓ Divide class in two groups :
Practice spike motion on target zone (cone) – [Minor
Game]- on volleyball rope.
Cooling down
Stretching (shoulder joint and lower limbs).
