The systems used at the cashpoint of a hairdressing salon need to be created to

match the technical resources available. The procedures will differ from:

• Manual tills
• Automatic tills
• Computerised cash desks

• Manual tills

Ø This is a lockable cashbox or drawer used to store cash safely.

Ø A manual system means recording sales transactions by hand including a daily
sheet which itemises each client with the bill total alongside

• Automatic tills

Ø Programmable cash registers for a number of functions.

Ø Each person can be given a code to use which identifies his/her transactions.

Cashpoint functions

Whichever method your salon adapts, fundamental procedures are required as to

maintain accuracy and efficiency.
At all times the person acting as a cashier must ensure the client’s goodwill.

Float – At the beginning of each day, the cashpoint must be primed

with a float – an amount of money which is surplus to the income from
daily transactions.

The security thread is embedded in the banknote paper. Hold the

banknote against the light – the thread will appear as a dark stripe.
The word “EURO” and the value (“100”) can be seen in tiny letters
on the stripe. Tilt the banknote – the hologram image will change
between the value and a window or doorway.

The security thread is embedded in the banknote paper. Hold the banknote

or infrared technology, however, reveals special features as well. The word

Detector Pen.

The pens work by reacting with the starch that is present in ‘normal’ wood pulp
paper. So, whilst they can detect some (but not all) counterfeits printed on
paper, they won’t detect all.

PAY M E N T S B Y C A R D
A debit card is like a pre-paid card that deducts money directly from a
consumer's account when paying for a purchase or service. This type of cards is
always linked to a current/savings account. The card processing company
charges a small fee to the salon owner for every transaction processed.
A visa debit card unlocks more financial flexible as it is accepted in almost all
outlets oll over the world.

PAY M E N T S B Y C A R D
A VISA credit card works slightly different as the bank provides the holder
with a credit limit. The card holder will then pay the bank either on a monthly
basis just when the bank issues a statement or else when the holder decides
to pay beforehand.

GIFT VOUCHERS

Vouchers may be sold by the salon for payment agains hairdressing

services or retail sales.
Vouchers denote that a payment has already been received by the
salon. Having said that make sure to check for validity of voucher and
do not re-process payment.
