SYNOPSIS
The Room on The Roof- Ruskin Bond
Romeo and Juliet, Act 1 Scene 2, ‘A Street'
The novel ‘ The Room on the Roof', is written by Bond at age of 17, is set in
Dehra. Inspired by Bonds own experience, it is based on a Anglo- Indian orphaned
boy named Rusty who lives with his guardians and is frustrated by their strict
ways.
Ruskin Bond usually writes about the daily lives of ordinary people and he writes
based on fiction genre. Through this chapter, Bond first transports us to a world
of mountains, trees and rivers. His writing style is very simple and needs no
introduction. He describes every minute detail of the surrounding, and the
characters in both their behavior and appearance. The author depicts the inner
voice of the characters in way like they are talking to us. By the vivid description
of the Indian Bazaar, he also explains how our culture looks from the foreigners
point of view.
Romeo and Juliet, is a play written by William Shakespeare is set in Italy . The Act
1 Scene 2, begins with a discussion on Juliet’s age between Capulet and Paris.
Paris declares his wish to marry Juliet. No sooner does Capulet arrange a feast so
that Paris can woo Juliet easily.
William has written many plays and dramas on the genre’s comedy, tragedy and
history. This particular play is based on tragedy. William’s writing is complicating
to understand as first as he uses old- fashioned English coupled with his
inimitable poetic aptitude. Yet there is wonderful beauty in the language used.
Both the authors have a varied writing style, great mindset but different
imagination. We can observe that Bond focuses more on how the characters feel
and think with less face to face conversations whereas William has more face to
face conversations. Each of them have placed the protagonists of their stories in a
wonderful way. Ruskin Bonds The Room on the Roof is based on youth and
friendship whereas love is the dominant theme William Shakespeare’s play
Romeo and Juliet.
