BACKGROUND

It has been realised that learners lack skills of data collection, data presentation and interpretation especially when solving everyday challenges faced by
society. In this practical activity you are expected to assist local entrepreneurs who want to stock car paint in their hardware shops but have no idea of
which paint colours will be wanted by most customers. You will collect data on colour of cars passing through a main road in your area in order to give
them ideas of popularity of different paint colours in cars.

HOW LEARNER’S WILL BE ASSESED?

Learners will be assessed in their ability to:

1. Collect data on colour of cars passing through your data collection point

2. Present data in tallies, tables, graphs and pie charts

3. Interpret the data presented

CALA DESCRIPTION (40Marks)

The CALA will consist of 5 parts A, B, C, D and E. The learner is required to respond to all the 5 parts

PART A

You are to select time when you will go out to a main road and collect data on colour of cars passing by.

NB: stay away from roads during your data collection by finding a safe spot that is at least 8 metres away from the road

a. Give the following details about your execution of the task. You have to state
i) Location and place where data was collected (1)

ii) Day of data collection (1)

iii) Time of data collection (1)

b. Present the raw data collected using tallies (5)

PART B

Present the data collected on colour of cars using a table (7)

PART C

Present the data collected on car colour using a suitable graph (10)

PART D

Present data collected on car colour using a pie chart (10)

PART E: ANALYSIS

a. List 3 most common paint colours in cars surveyed in order of their popularity (3)

b. Name the 2 least popular paint colours (2)
