2. In the Sage 50 Accounting—U.S. Edition area, click Register Now.

Complete the form > Submit.
3. If necessary, go back to the For students screen. Click Download the
software > select Download 2019 version. The serial number code is shown
on page x, number 9. You can use the Student version for 14 months.

4. Click <Run>. The percentage scale shows how long the download takes.
5. The Sage50 Accounting 2019.0.0 window appears, the Destination folder
shows c:\sage\SAGE50_2019_0_0.

6. After clicking <Install>, the screen prompts “Extracting files.” If the User
Account Control window appears, click <Yes>. The Welcome to Sage 50
Accounting window appears. Click <Next>.
7. When the License Agreement window appears, click on the box next to I
agree to the terms of the license agreement to place a checkmark in it.

8. After clicking <Next>, the Windows Firewall window appears. Accept the
default for Auto configure the Windows Firewall to allow install and run
Sage 50 by clicking <Next>.

NOTE: To read information about firewalls and antivirus software, search the Sage
Knowledgebase at https://support.na.sage.com/selfservice/microsites/microsite.do >
in the Search the knowledgebase field, type Firewall > in the Products field, select

Sage 50—U.S. Edition 2019 > click > link to Files to allow through
firewall and antivirus.

9. The Serial Number window appears. Type 7Ø2FB-58Ø2-9793-2211 in the

Serial number field.

NOTE TO INSTRUCTORS/SCHOOLS: If your school is a member of the

Sage Education Alliance Program, Sage 50 2019 is automatically sent to
schools. When installing the software, use the serial number emailed by
SageEducation@sage.com, 800-256-8807. The website for downloading free
classroom software is http://www.sage.com/us/about-us/education-instructor >
Educators and instructors click here > Register now> Download the software >
Download 2019 version > type Educational version Serial Number provided by
Sage Education.

10. After clicking <Next>, the Single computer or Network window appears.
Accept the default for Yes by clicking <Next>.
11. The Install Options window appears showing the location for the Sage 50
program and data files.

12. After clicking <Install>, the Installing Sage 50 Accounting scale shows the
progress of installation. Be patient, installation takes a while.

If a Cannot connect to database window appears, click <Cancel>. Install

resumes.

13. The Installation Completed window appears.

14. After clicking <Finish>, the startup window appears.

The version students install shows “Student,” which can be used for 14
months. The version installed at school may show “Educational” which does
not have a time limit. Instructors and schools can email
SageEducation@sage.com to receive the serial number for the full

“Educational” version with no time limit. Except for the time limit and serial
number used during installation, the Student and Educational versions are the
same.

15. Complete Product Activation. From the startup window, select Help > Sage
50 Activation, Licensing, and Subscription Options.

Why do I need to activate?

If you do not complete product activation, Sage 50 will stop working

after a few uses. If you start Sage 50 and a screen prompts to activate,
follow these steps.

(Hint: If you started Sage 50 and a company opened, you can activate
from the Help menu.)

a. The Product Activation window appears. Select Activate Online

Now. Or, if you do not have an Internet connection, select <Activate
Manually>.

b. The Activation Complete window appears.

c. press <Enter>.

16. When Sage 50 starts, the Student version startup window shows “Sage 50
Complete Accounting - Student.” The Student version is accessible for 14
months.

Or, in the classroom, the startup window may show Educational. If the
school prefers that version, email SageEducation@sage.com. The
Educational version is the non-time limited software available for
classroom use. Refer to page xix for Computer Lab Installation.

17. Select Explore a sample company. Bellwether Garden Supply is the default.

18. Click <OK> or press <Enter>. (Hint: If a screen prompts You can use this
company in the student version of Sage 50 Accounting for the next 14
months and then it will expire, click <OK>. The Student version expiration
date is explained below and on the next page.)

Expiration Date, Student Version, Sage 50 2019

To see when the Student Version of Sage 50 2019 expires, do this.

1. From the Menu bar > select Maintain > Company Information.
2. The Maintain Company Information window appears. The expiration date is
14 months after the day you installed the software. For example, the author
installed the Sage 50 Student version on August 20, 2018. The expiration
date is 14 months later on October 20, 2019.

Setting Global Options

Follow these steps to set Sage 50’s Global Options. These options will be in
effect for all Sage 50 companies.

1. From Sage 50’s menu bar, select Options > Global. The Accounting tab is
selected.
In the Decimal Entry area, Manual and 2 decimal places should be
selected in each field.
In the Hide General Ledger Accounts area, the boxes must be
unchecked.
In the Other Options area, Warn if a record was changed but not saved
and Recalculate cash balance automatically in Receipts, Payments, and
Payroll Entry should be checked.

2. Click the General tab. Make sure your screen matches the one shown.

3. Click . The selections made in global options are now set for all
companies.

4. From Sage 50’s menu bar, click File > Exit.

Observe that icons have been set up on the desktop for Sage 50: Sage 50
Accounting 2019 and Sage 50 Accounting 2019 Automatic Backup
Configuration.

COMPUTER LAB INSTALLATION

Before computer lab installation, make sure all versions of Peachtree or Sage 50
are deleted. Refer to Deleting Sage 50, page xxii.

1. Sage 50 Accounting 2019 - Educational Version should be installed

locally. Do not put on server.
2. Install software on local workstation then ghost (replicate) install. You can
put the software on a standard lab image.

If you network Sage 50 2019-Educational Version, you will fall under the 5-seat
license rule which will be an issue in a classroom where students may be working
on the same data. For classroom installation, it is best to create a lab image.

STUDENT VERSION SOFTWARE

The software included with the textbook is Sage 50 Accounting 2019, Student
Version. To see the default location where the currently displayed Sage 50
company resides, follow these steps.

1. Start Sage 50. Open the sample company, Bellwether Garden Supply.
2. From the menu bar, select Maintain > Company Information. The Directory
field shows where the currently displayed Sage 50 company resides. The
Student Version directory is shown below.

Student version Directory:

\PCWS

You can use company data in the Student Version for 14 months. After 14
months, the Student Version expires. Your expiration date will differ from the
one shown.

Read me: Add student name to printouts

To add your name to reports, type your name or initials after the
Company Name. The Company Name field is shown on Sage 50 printouts.

EDUCATIONAL VERSION SOFTWARE

If you are working in the computer lab, the default directory for Educational
Version differs slightly when compared to the Student Version.

The Maintain Company Information window's Directory field differs slightly.

Observe that the default folder for the Educational Version is \PCWE not
\PCWS. Before adding your name to Bellwether Garden Supply in Chapter 1, the
Directory field ends in \BCS. Once your name is added, the Directory field
changes to \belgarsu (first three letters from the first word (bel), three letters
from the second word (gar), two letters from the third word (su). Refer to pages
40-41, Add Your Name to Reports).

Educational version Directory:

\PCWE

The features of the Student Version and Educational Version are the same,
except for the Student Version's 14-month period of use. The serial numbers for
installing the Student Version and Education Version also differ.

On the Educational version, the BCS folder is within the PCWE

folder. On the Student version, the BCS folder is within the PCWS
folder. The “E” is for Educational; the “S” for “Student” version.

DELETING SAGE 50

Before uninstalling Sage 50, backup data that you want to keep. Once Sage is
uninstalled, all company data files are removed. Follow these steps to delete
Sage 50 Accounting 2019. (Use similar steps to delete an earlier version.)

1. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall Sage 50

Accounting 2019 (or other year). The InstallWizard window appears
briefly.
2. When the Maintenance Options window appears, select Remove > click
<Next>.
3. The Confirm Uninstall prompts This will remove Sage 50 Accounting
2019 (all versions), click <OK>. Be patient. Removing Sage 50
Accounting will take a while.
4. When the Maintenance Complete window appears, click <Finish>.

After uninstall, delete these two folders:

1. C:\Sage
2. C:\Program Files (x86)\Sage

After removing the folders, empty the recycle bin.

Sage 50 is a double-entry accounting system. Double-entry accounting means

that the equation Assets = Liabilities + Equity is always in balance. Since a
debit in one account will be offset by a credit in another account, the sum of all
debits is equal to the sum of all credits. To assure double-entry accounting
procedures, Sage 50 includes monthly accounting periods, the general journal
and special journals, general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, account
reconciliation, an audit trail, and numerous financial reports. The Sage 50
accounting system also includes closing the fiscal year.

Muistutus. Norjan kautta tulleiksi kutsutaan niitä, jotka Norjaan

muuttaneista Suomen alamaisista owat syntyneet Norjassa, mutta
eiwät norjalaistuneet.

Kaiken kaikkiaan on siis Muurmannilaisella rannikolla 688 henkeä,

jotka ewankelis-lutherilasen papin apua tarwitsewat. Tästä
summasta saattaa olla poissa joku kymmenkunta lappalaista, jotka
asuwat sisämaissa ja Petsamowuonon seutuwilla.
