Invitation and Replies

Invitations and Replies have been included in the CBSE curriculum to help students
with their overall growth in academic life. Learning how to draft an invitation and
what and how to reply when someone receives an invitation is essential if thinking
about the future.

For example, a student receives an invitation to participate in the upcoming Olympiad

exam and he/she has to RSVP as soon as possible, but replying here would require a
certain format.

The same goes when any student wants to invite his/her friends for a birthday bash,
the invitation would follow a certain format too. This writing piece will cover all the
important concepts from the meaning to the examples and practice questions.

Invitation
Requesting someone’s presence at an event or an occasion by sending a personal
notice via a car or letter is the invitation. The event or an occasion can be a birthday
party, wedding, school cultural program, or an office event.

The invitation can be verbal too made via a voice call. The sent printed information on
a card letter or verbal invitation will include every detail (time, place, venue, occasion
type, host/inventor name). Based on the written type of invitation, it is divided into
two categories: formal and informal.

Informal invitations unlike formal invitations are more personal and carry a friendly
tone. These are sent when the person wants to invite someone to a get-together, par-
ty, anniversaries, and many more. There is no need to maintain a particular structure
but from the exam’s POV, there is a need for it. The context and the content depend on

als who have invited the said person for an event or occasion. A reply either confirms
or declines the invitation sent by the host of the event. The tone of the reply is usually
respectful, conventional, and polite.
