All Across The Sands lyrics

Bones of an impressive romance
Scattered all across the sands
A secret safe with all the world
Too vain to seem so capable

Can you hear it calling

Do you feel warmer
As the hired hand’s exposed

How can a pretty painted shell

Send them all packing o! to hell
A freight train laughs and rattles by
You kissed the girls and made them die

Can you hear it calling

Do you feel warmer
As the hired hand’s exposed

And i’ll never come here again

And we will never come here again
And we will never play here again
Again

Can you hear it calling

Do you feel warmer
As the hired hand’s exposed

After her call

After her call
After her call
And she calls

Hired hand.
Wonder what that refers to.

Supposedly about a serial killer who was irresistible to the women

he killed; so much so, that those enamoured with him whom he
didn’t kill, refused to inform on him.

Never been able to find out exactly who this was supposed to be; so
he may have a literary origin, or be the entirely the figment of the
Roses’ imaginations.

I was in the Bluebird club, Barrow in Furness on 14th August 1986

and they didn’t get boo’d o! at all. They were one of the best bands
to play at the Indie nights. They supported the Shamen that night
and got paid £50 or £10 per song. I felt like I’d been transported to
the Cavern club in ‘62 to watch the Beatles. They just had it. Nailed it
to the floor.
No one danced (Barrow is a tough audience) and Ian asked fairly is
anyone going to dance. Some wag shouted No and they walked o!
the stage. The hired hand might be the sound man as there was an
altercation outside with his van. Next day I told my neighbour Andy
Turner (AiM) what a great band I’d seen and many years later he
engineered a track for Ian. As a drummer I was gutted they walked
o!, they were a magnificent band, just the audience failed to see it.
My friend Mike who was the promoter still has the poster for it.
Howard.
