1 The length of a portion of the wooden deck of a ship is 72 ft and the half-breadths at equally spaced ordinates are

26, 25.6, 24.2, 21.7 and 18.5 ft. There is an opening for a hatchway in the deck measuring 20 ft by 15 ft. If the the
deck is to be covered with wood which is 2.5 in. thick and weighing 50 lbs per cu. Ft, find the weight of the wood
required in tons.
2 The waterplane of a ship is 175 ft long and has the following values for the half ordinates in feet, as measured at
equal intervals, 2.5, 8.5, 12.5, 14.0, 13.4, 9.6, and 0. Find the area of the waterplane, using Simpson’s First Rule and
Simpson’s Second Rule.
2 A hollow steel cylinder is 24 ft long, has a radius of 12 ft and weighs 60 tons. At what draft will it float in water
weighing 62.4 lbs per cu. ft when its axis is vertical?
3 The areas of the successive planes of a ship at 4 ft intervals, staring from the 4 ft waterplane are 17,407; 19,224;
20,179; 20,803 sq ft, respectively. The appendage below the 4 ft waterplane has a displacement of 1,690 tons in
saltwater and KB of 2.20 ft. Calculate the total volume of displacement and the value of KB to the 16 ft waterplane.
4 The semi-ordinates of the load water-plane of a vessel are 0, 3.35, 6.41, 8.63, 9.93, 10.44, 10.37,
9.94, 8.96, 7.16, and 2.5 feet respectively. These ordinates being 21 feet apart, find the following:
a) The tons per inch immersion (TPI). b) The distance between the center of buoyancy and the
transverse metacenter, the load displacement being 484 tons.
