―As the recent Annual Survey of Education Report (ASER) 2017 findings suggest, 32%
girls are not enrolled—compared to 28% boys. The number of schools also decreases
sharply beyond upper primary. In 2015-16, for every 100 elementary schools (classes I
to VIII) in rural India, there were 14 offering secondary (classes IX-X) and only six
offering higher secondary grades (classes XI-XII).‖  Livemint 31st Jan 2018.

― In most states boys in the age group 15-16 years

were more likely to drop out of school than girls.
The reasons for differential gender trends across ―A higher proportion of children in the age group
states is not clear and needs further research. – 11-16 years who dropped out of school between
ASER” 2015 and 2016 lacked basic reading and arithmetic
skills, as compared to children who continued to be
enrolled in school in 2016.‖  ASER 2016

―India has 47 million youth of secondary and higher secondary school-going

age dropping out of school, according to a report by the UNESCO
