IO Graphic Organizer For Film Extracts (Parasite Sample) )
Now that we’ve acknowledged the interplay between visuals, sound, and language, it’s time to
put it all together and unpack a scene from Parasite. It is important to note that when using film
for the IO, candidates should adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Choose 2-4 screenshots within a scene (approximately 1-2 minutes of a film) that help to
communicate an important Global Issue.
2. Analyze the visual elements of each shot (mise-en-scene analysis)
3. Analyze the sound elements in the scene (diegetic and non-diegetic sound)
4. Analyze the language of the scene (dialogue, voiceover narration)
The following image may serve as an important reminder when considering mise en scene:

Mun Kwang: Help me push this! Pull it! From over there.
Mun Kwang: Did I scare you? Thank you. Thank you. Honey!
Mun Kwang: Suck it. How many days has it been? You must’ve been so hungry. It’s okay. She’s a
nice woman. She let me in. There was an iron plate. The ones you use for grilling meat. It was
wedged under the shelf. So that’s why.
Mun Kwang: I know you must be startled. I would be, too, in this situation. But as two fellow
workers…right, Chung Suk?
Mun Kwang: Da-Song and I still text from time to time. I came here because I knew the family
would be on a camping trip. I wanted to talk to you alone. Don’t worry, sister. No one knows I’m
here.
