Early and late learning (note: acquisition- something we do naturally,
without efforts, learning - something we have to do by putting actual
efforts)
1. Children learn language that is, mother tongue early- at age of 5
to 10-automatic and effortless- acquisition
Subconscious process
Computation – processing of language in human mind after taking
input from surroundings and output is language that we speak.
A normal child is hardwired to acquire language from immediate
environment with the help of Language Acquisition Device (LAD) and
universal grammar (UG).

2. Adults have to learn language

late- after 15 years of age- if any
new one- this requires efforts-
learning
Observation of patterns- applying
those patterns
Conscious process
Sound system of existing language conditions our vocal tract
and does not allow us to get accustomed with the sound
patterns of a new language.
