Dear MAC3761 student,

We trust that your preparations are progressing well for the second test of 2024 for MAC3761.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS TO READ THROUGH FOR MAC3761 TEST 2 2024:

Below is a break-down of the time duration on the day of the MAC3761 Test 2:

MAC3761 11:00am – Download the question paper and read the Required
11:15am and scenario provided.
10 June 2024 11:15am – Writing time
13:00pm
13:00pm – Submission time (upload your answer file)
13:30pm

THIS IS NOT AN OPEN BOOK TEST! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO COPY FROM OR
CONSULT ANY SOURCES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO YOUR TEXTBOOK,
TUTORIAL LETTERS, ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, THE INTERNET OR A PERSON/S.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS YOUR SOLE RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT YOU UPLOAD
ON THE CAS.myExams PLATFORM, https://cas.myexams.unisa.ac.za. THE SYSTEM CLOSES
AT 13:30PM. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY REASON FOR FAILURE TO SUBMIT AND WE
WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY SUBMISSION ON ANY OTHER PLATFORM THAN CAS.myExams.

NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

1. Test 2 is an online assessment and will be out of 60 marks. Please ensure that you have all the
necessary resources (internet connectivity, pdf converter/scanner app e.g. Microsoft
Lens/CamScanner, etc.) to ensure minimal disruptions during the test. Please make sure that
the app you are using to scan (if you will be using an app) allows sufficient number of pages to
be scanned as some apps may limit the number of pages allowed to be scanned for free. Your
answers can be handwritten or typed, but they MUST be converted to a single PDF file.
Only PDF documents will be allowed and all Word/Excel documents must be saved as ONE
PDF file before it can be submitted (double check that all your pages show in the PDF file).

2. Refer to the student guides in the folder “Important test instructions and student guides” on the
Welcome Page (landing page) of myUNISA for MAC3761-24-Y.

3. The Invigilator App / IRIS will NOT BE USED during Test 2 for MAC3761.

4. NO emailed submissions will be accepted.

5. Students can download the Test 2 question paper from the CAS.myExams platform
(https://cas.myexams.unisa.ac.za). On the website under the myExams TAB, MAC3761 will be
listed (MAC3761-24-Y). It looks like this when you select MAC3761-24-Y:

Open Rubric
6. Under the applicable module you will find a folder to access your paper called MAC3761-TEST
2 2024

(NB: ONLY visible when the time for the test starts!! Please DO NOT PANIC if you do not see
the folder before 11:00am the morning of the test).

7. The question paper will be available at the start of the session, i.e. 11:00am.

8. The test will be written from 11:00 to 13:30 and includes 15 minutes to download and read
the paper and required and 30 minutes to upload your answer script.

9. You MUST start the upload process promptly at 13:00 (at the latest but you can also start
earlier). The system will close after the allowed upload time (i.e. at 13:30) and NO late
submissions will be accepted. Note that cut-off happens promptly at 13:30:00, you thus have
to complete the upload BEFORE 13:30:00.

10. DO NOT continue writing during the upload time, i.e. you need to stop writing before or at
13:00pm. It is clear from the previous test sessions that most students who battle with
submission, often do so because of leaving this to the last minute. The system may be slow and
Cas.myExams can be very busy at that stage and you need to allow enough time to upload.

11. You are, however, advised that queries that are beyond Unisa’s control include amongst others
the following:
a. Personal network or service provider issues
b. Scanner issues
c. Load shedding or limited backup power on computer
d. Limited space on personal computer
e. Crashed computer or other device
f. Using work computers that block access to cas.myexams.unisa.ac.za (work firewall challenges)
g. Unlicensed software (e.g., license expires during assessments)
h. Limited space or data on device.
12. To avoid submitting corrupt files or files that we cannot open or mark, please ensure that you do the
following:

• Your file must be closed on your PC when you upload.

• Do not apply any security measures, for example read-only files or password protection - we
will not be able to open/mark it and you will be regarded as absent from the test.
• Do not submit virus-infected files.
• Do not submit a scanned document that is not clear. Ensure that all your handwriting is clear
and that all the pages are readable after you scanned. A submitted file that is not clear will not
be allocated marks and you may fail.
• View your file (in pdf) before you upload it, to ensure that all the pages are included and that it
is readable.
• Practise, before the day of the test, to convert a document to a pdf file (on your laptop/tablet/PC)
or to scan in a document on your cell phone in a pdf file, if you have not done so already.

13. Once the writing time for the assessment session ends, students must submit the scanned answer
scripts on cas.myexams.unisa.ac.za. Please note that you will do your submission in the same
TEST 2 folder from which you downloaded your test question paper – click on the Add
Submission button.
Note the file requirements such as:
a. File size limit.
b. Make sure ALL your pages are converted into a single PDF document for uploading (Make
sure the file is not read-only or password protected).

The file title for each submission should be:

STUDENTNUMBER_MODULECODE_02.pdf
Example: 12445678_MAC3761_02.pdf

REMEMBER TO REPLACE THE 12445678 in the example above, WITH YOUR OWN
STUDENT NUMBER

14. Please note that there will be NO alternative (contingency) link for Test 2 and the ONLY option
to upload your answer script, is to upload on cas.myexams.unisa.ac.za.

15. The final submission of your answer script will be on cas.myexams.unisa.ac.za and this is the
only system/platform for submission that will be accepted by the university.

16. The Honesty Declaration is online and you will need to self-declare. As part of the declaration,
you will need to type in the two separate words, “I AGREE” and this should be done for each
module submission. The following screenshot provides some clarity on the process and how to
submit your Test 2 and the Declaration:
17. Do not submit your scanned pages one-by-one. Each time you upload a file it REPLACES the
previous submission and only the last file received by Unisa will be marked.

18. Please take note of the file requirements such as file size limit and make sure ALL pages are
converted into a single PDF document for uploading (also make sure the document is not
password protected or read-only).

19. Review your submission information regarding the status and click on your submission file link
to check if it is correct.

20. If you need to resubmit a file, you can click on the Edit Submission button. Students are
permitted to resubmit their answer scripts, but only within the stipulated submission duration,
should they regard the initial submission to be unsatisfactory. Resubmissions after the closing
time of the test are not permitted. Resubmission overrides/replaces the previous submission.
Incorrect file format and uncollated answer scripts will not be considered. Wrong answer scripts
that are uploaded, that is, any file other than the test answer script (e.g., uploading the test
question paper instead of the test answer script) will not be marked. Submissions will only be
accepted from registered student accounts.

21. Make a screen copy confirming that you have loaded your answer sheet for your records.

22. The University takes unethical and dishonest behaviour of students very seriously. Such
behaviour tarnishes not only the reputation that Unisa has strived to uphold over its long legacy,
but also undermines the sincere efforts of other students who desist from such practices. We
already held some Student Disciplinary Hearings for plagiarism cases investigated in prior
years. Students who were found to have contravened the examination procedures (plagiarised)
have been suspended from their academic activities. Please take care that you submit your own
work as per the Honesty Declaration in point 16 above.

23. Students are once again reminded that NO late or emailed submissions will be allowed.

24. If you experience technical problems, of any kind, and no file is uploaded by the cut-off time on
the day of the test, you will be marked as absent. Unfortunately, no other arrangements can be
made.
25. Loadshedding – if you are anticipating loadshedding in your area during the assessment time
(11:00 to 13:30) or you may have internet connection challenges, you are advised to consider
travelling to an area where the connection will be stable. Your assessment will not be marked if
you fail to submit the assessment before 13:30 on the 10th of June.

26. Non-submission of answer file

If you are not able to submit your Test 2 answer for any reason (due to illness/ due to
loadshedding/ bad network/ any other matter), you will have to make sure to write the remaining
two tests as there is no sick test or alternative opportunity for Test 2. An average of the best
three test marks is used to calculate your year mark (refer to Tutorial letter 101).

27. Confirmation of test answer file submission

Unfortunately, lecturers cannot confirm whether your answer file has been received or not, you
will have to wait until the results are released.

28. System “not working”

Note that cut-off time is promptly 13:30 on 10 June 2024. Submissions will only be accepted if
they were received before 13:30 on cas.myexams.unisa.ac.za.

There is NO alternative link.

Students are provided 30 MINUTES to submit their answer scripts after the official test writing
time ends. Submissions not made before the cut-off time for uploads will be rejected. Late
submissions will not be marked.

29. Plagiarism

Students must complete the online Honesty Declaration of their work when submitting their test
script. Students suspected of dishonest conduct during an assessment will be subjected to
disciplinary processes. Students may not communicate with any other person or request
assistance from any other person during their assessments. The use of Telegram, WhatsApp
or any other instant messaging services with any other person are strictly prohibited. Plagiarism
is a violation of academic integrity and students who plagiarise, copy from published work or
use Artificial Intelligence Software (eg. ChatGPT) or online sources (eg. course material) will
be in violation of the Policy on Academic Integrity and the Student Disciplinary Code and may
be referred to a disciplinary hearing. Unisa has a zero tolerance for plagiarism and/or any other
forms of academic dishonesty.

We acknowledge and are very aware that you might be frustrated if you attempted the paper, spent time
trying to submit and failed to do so, but please understand that we are not permitted to accommodate any
form of alternative arrangement for accessing the paper or submission of your test answer. We are not
allowed to mark any test answer script that is not submitted to the correct site before the cut-off time. We
CANNOT accept emailed submissions.

We wish you well with your second MAC3761 test.
