INGREDIENTS
1. Place meat, fat side up, on a rack in a shallow roasting pan. Season roast with salt and pepper, if
desired. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest portion of the meat. Do not add water or other liquid; do
not cover.
2. Roast in a 350 degree F oven for 1-1/2 to 2 hours for medium rare or until meat thermometer
registers 140 degree F; or for 2 to 2-1/4 hours for medium or until meat thermometer registers 155 degree F.
Remove the roast from the oven; cover with foil and let it stand 15 minutes. The meat's temperature will rise 5
degrees during the time it stands. Serve with Beef au Jus, if desired. Makes 12 servings.
Beef au Jus: After removing meat from the oven, spoon drippings from pan; skim fat. Add 2 cups boiling
water to pan, stirring and scraping crusty browned bits off the bottom. Stir in pan drippings. Cook and stir until
bubbly. For a richer flavor, stir in 2 teaspoons instant beef bouillon granules. Season to taste.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service reminds individual taxpayers that they can
request an automatic six-month filing extension. An extension grants extra time for filing the tax
return only, not for paying any taxes due. Taxpayers will owe interest on any past due tax and
may be subject to a late payment penalty if payment is not made by the original due date of the
return.
The request must be made by the due date of the return, which is April 17, 2006, for all states
except the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York
and Vermont. Taxpayers in these states have until April 18, 2006, to file and pay because of the
Patriot’s Day Holiday on April 17 in Massachusetts, where the Andover Service Center is located.
This year, the IRS simplified the process to file for an extension. Individuals should use the 2005
version of Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income
Tax Return, to get the automatic six-month extension to Oct. 16, 2006 (Oct. 15, 2006, is a
Sunday). The extension is automatic as long as it is timely filed and includes a proper estimate of
tax due. Taxpayers do not need to sign the extension request or provide an explanation for
requesting an extension.
The IRS reminds extension filers that they can electronically file their returns until Oct. 16. Last
year, nearly 1.8 million taxpayers filed electronically after the April deadline.
All taxpayers are generally entitled to an automatic 6-month extension of time to file their returns
by filing Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income
Tax Return, also available en español, with the Internal Revenue Service.
In addition to this 6-month extension, taxpayers who are out of the country (as defined in the
Form 4868 instructions) can request a discretionary 2-month additional extension of time to file
their returns (to December 15 for calendar year taxpayers).
To request this extension, you must send the Internal Revenue Service a letter explaining the
reasons why you need the additional 2 months. Send the letter by the extended due date
(October 15 for calendar year taxpayers) to the following address:
You will not receive any notification from the Internal Revenue Service unless your request is
denied for being untimely.
The discretionary 2-month additional extension is not available to taxpayers who have an
approved extension of time to file on Form 2350 (for U.S. citizens and resident aliens abroad who
expect to qualify for special tax treatment).
