Toyota Safety Recall RF8

Transport Canada Recall 2023-589
SAMPLE
Dear Toyota Customer,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This is to inform
you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person. Toyota has determined that a
defect related to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2013 - 2018 model year RAV4 vehicles.

Our records indicate that you currently own an affected vehicle.

We are currently in the process of preparing the final remedy for this campaign and will notify you again
when it becomes available for your vehicle. Until then, we are sending you this notice to provide you
with important information regarding this campaign and the steps you can take at this time.

What is the condition?

Some replacement 12-volt batteries of the size specified for the subject vehicles have smaller top dimensions
than others. If a small-top battery is used for replacement and the hold-down clamp is not tightened correctly, the
battery could move when the vehicle is driven with forceful turns. The movement could cause the positive battery
terminal to contact the hold-down clamp and short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.

What is Toyota going to do?

When the remedy is available, any authorized Toyota dealer will replace the battery hold down clamp, battery
tray, and positive terminal cover with improved ones, FREE OF CHARGE.

This is an important Safety Recall.

Toyota is currently preparing the parts and repair instructions for the remedy. At this time, Toyota estimates
that the remedy can be available the middle of 2024 but this timing is subject to change.

Toyota previously announced Consumer Advisory CA1 for these same subject vehicles. Until the remedy
is available, owners who have not had the free battery inspection performed under this Advisory are
encouraged to do so.

What if you are not the owner or operator of this vehicle?

If you are a vehicle lessor, Federal Regulation requires TCI to inform any vehicle lessor receiving this recall
notice to forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten working days.

If you know the current owner or operator, please forward this letter to them.
