COOLING AND LUBRICATION SYSTEM

1. HOW THE LUBRICATION SYSTEM WORKS?

They are the different methods of distributing the oil through the engine parts. It
consists of delivering a film of lubricating oil to each of the surfaces of the parts
that are moving with each other, to fundamentally avoid excessive and premature
wear, thus reducing the useful life of the internal combustion engine.

SPLATTER
It is not very efficient and is hardly used today (alone). It consists of a pump that
carries the lubricant from the crankcase to small "deposits" or crevices, and
maintains a certain level, blades arranged on the elbows of the crankshaft "splash"
the parts to be greased with oil.

4. TYPES OF LUBRICATION SYSTEM

There are many parts that rotate inside an engine. When the engine is running, all
of these rotating parts generate heat from the friction that metal parts make when
they come into direct contact with other metal parts. As a result of the wear and
tear and heat from all this movement and friction, it is easy for an engine to seize
or begin to damage. Lubrication equipment creates an oil film on moving metal
engine parts, relieving wear and heat, causing parts to rotate easily.

MIXED SYSTEM
In the mixed system, the splash system is used and the pump also sends the oil
under pressure to the crankshaft benches.

PRESSURE SYSTEM
It is the most used lubrication system. The oil arrives driven by the pump to all the
elements, through some conduits, except the connecting rod foot, which ensures its
greasing by means of a segment, whose mission is to scrape the walls so that the oil
does not pass to the part top of the piston and burn out with the explosions.
In this way a more direct greasing is achieved. It also does not pressure grease the
cylinder and piston walls, which are greased by splashing.

FULL PRESSURE SYSTEM

It is the most sophisticated system. In it, the oil reaches all the friction points
(bench, connecting rod, camshaft, rocker shaft) and the most work of the engine,
through holes that connect with the oil pump.

DRY SUMP SYSTEM

This system is mainly used in competition and aviation engines, they are engines
that frequently change position and for this reason the oil is not always in the same
place. It consists of an auxiliary tank (D), where the oil sent by a pump (B) is
located. It leaves the tank by the action of the pump (N), which sends it at full
pressure to all the organs from which it overflows and, which pump B returns to
the tank (D).

2. TYPES OF LUBRICATING OILS

OIL PUMP
It is capable of supplying great pressure, even at low engine speed. It is made up of
two gears located inside it, one of them moves from the camshaft and the other
rotates driven by the other. It has an inlet pipe coming from the crankcase and a
pressure outlet directed to the oil filter.

3

OIL PUMP
It is also a gear system but internal. A pinion (rotor) with teeth, which receives
movement from the camshaft, draws a ring (impeller) with five incoming teeth that
rotates in the same direction as the pinion inside the pump body, sucks the oil,
making it compresses and sends it under great pressure. The clearance between
the parts must not exceed three tenths of a millimeter.

OIL PUMP
It is shaped like a cylinder, with two orifices (one for inlet and one for outlet).
Inside there is an eccentric that rotates in the opposite direction to the direction of
the oil, with two blades attached to the cylinder walls by means of two springs (the
blades suck at the rear and push at the front)

3. TYPES OF OIL FILTERS

ARMORED OR MONOBLOCK:
This type of filter is the most widely used today. It is a metal filter that is attached
to the engine by means of a thread. These are characterized by having a bypass
valve that allows the lubricant to return if it has a lot of pressure, this so as not to
break the filter papers of the element. In addition, they have a non-return valve
that ensures that the filter empties when the engine is switched off.

CARTRIDGE:
These filters have a filter cartridge, which is the part that we must replace when
making the usual oil change in our vehicle. This filter does not have a bypass valve,
as it is located in the fixed part of the filter and is not replaced during maintenance.

5. TYPES OF COOLANTS

THE ANTICORROSIVE COOLANT:

in addition to cooling, it contains additives that prevent corrosion, as its name
indicates. They can be found in various degrees of concentration, that is, the
additive that contains a higher concentration will better fulfill its function, in
addition to maintaining the temperature.

ANTIFREEZE COOLANT IS ACCURATE FOR VERY COLD

CLIMATES:
Avoid freezing the liquid if the temperature is near or below 0 ° C so that the
water does not freeze. This component is nothing more than a property of the
coolant and fulfills a very important function in your vehicle, which is to ensure
that the coolant circulates throughout its circuit without hindrance. In turn, there
is a variety of antifreeze coolants that we describe below:

Organic antifreezes contain anticavitation, antiscale, antifoam additives and also a

neutralizing reserve to maximize the protection of the refrigeration circuit.
