Description.
The EMRI Steering Failure Alarm Sensor is a simple comparator circuit.
It compares steering order as given by a steering wheel potmeter with an actual obtained rudder angle as
measured by a potmeter type of feedback transmitter.
The 2 signals must have the same scale factor, 0.2V/deg preferred.
If the two signals, the order and the actual differs by more than a preset (trimpotmeter P4) value, than an alarm
contact opens (or closes if this function is chosen) except if the error minimizes with acceptable speed.
The Alarm Limit can be adjusted between 2 deg and 10 deg by potmeter P4.
A build-in steering gear simulator can be adjusted to meet the approximate steering gear speed.
Adjustment range is from 1 deg/sec to 5 deg/sec.
Supply to the sensor circuit is 230VAC (factory default) or 115VAC if the transformer inlets are rewired.
The printed circuit board also holds an isolatiom amplifier input for an autopilot signal, scaled to 0.25V/deg.
To connect the autopilot signals to the sensor part you must close an external contact. (Terminals J3-1 to -2)
Other 2 terminals (J3-3 to –4) can be used to mute the alarm contact function, should this be needed.
Installation.
Connect as shown on the Connection Diagram, 4-5594.
Please note that the 2 principal signals must have the same sign convention, (Neg/STBD).
Commissioning.
Connect the system.
Check correct terminations.
Energize the circuit.
Pre-adjust trimpotmeters P3 and P4.
Start the steering gear and check alarm free situation from hard over to hard over.
Perform the check both from side to side and with frequent stops.
Check with 2 pumps running.
Adjust the trimpots if necessary.
