Reflection on the Informative Speech

I have worked diligently in the course of this class to improve my public speaking skills. As

required for this class, I recorded myself delivering an informative speech. As I watch my

recorded speech, I can note some positives and where I need to improve on my speech delivery.

I thoroughly researched what to say in my speech and as a result, I had a rich content that I

needed to feed my audience. So, I provided a comprehensive overview of the subject matter,

which was environmental sustainability. Thus, I can say that I conveyed the message effectively

with clarity and I organized it logically well with relevance. This improvement in content is

attributed to the skills I developed throughout the class and the progress I have made in this area

is commendable.

However, I was not audible enough and this affected the overall quality of my speech. I recorded

the speech while on the plane and so I was surrounded by a noisy environment filled with

distractions that hindered me and the ability of the audience to hear the message clearly.

Therefore, the audience of this recorded speech will likely miss some points because of my

compromised efforts to deliver valuable information. Moving forward, I will select a quieter

place to record my speech so as to enable my audience to engage with the content fully.

I also still notice lack of confidence in my speech delivery. Even though I see myself to have

improved in this area I still feel that I need to improve. My confidence will be a sure way of

captivating the attention of the audience and keep them engaged. I will regularly practice saying

speeches so as to improve in this area. Lack of confidence also affected the eye contact. I did not

have a consistent eye contact with the audience. This aspect also needs regular practice. As I

practice, I will seek feedback from mentors and peers.
