Position
A fully funded MS position is available for a highly motivated individual to work with Dr. Ruth
Woiwode in the Department of Animal Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. It will be
full-time with the expectation of graduation within three years. Tuition reimbursement and a
monthly stipend is available. The ideal candidate is highly motivated and demonstrates

independently and as part of a team.

The student in this position will join an inter research team investigating the impact of routine
handling events on performance and welfare of feedlot cattle. The student will learn methods for

associated economic phenomena, and ethical considerations of animal use. The student will
conduct an original experiment with the results to be published in a peer-reviewed journal.

In addition, the student will be expected to spend time helping with ongoing research in the
Woiwode Welfare lab, and with behavior and welfare classes, based on their qualifications.

Qualifications

and welfare or human-animal interaction including but not limited to animal science,
psychology, biology, animal cognition, or a related field. Candidates with animals and data (e.g.,
handling experience or research settings) are preferred.

This opportunity will also work well as an introductory behavior and welfare research
experience for a veterinarian (DVM or equivalent degree) who is interested in pursuing a
residency program for the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB), American
College of Animal Welfare (ACAW) or PhD program in the related field.
